Reacher is a precious, sweet and adventurous little guy and will stay small forever. He's 4th generation mame-shiba inu so you don't need to gamble that your breeder knows his future size. His expected adult size is 11 - 12 inches at the shoulder and between 12 - 15 pounds. Both of his parents weigh between 12 & 14 pounds. Multiple families that later found our tiny puppies but had previously purchased from another breeder as a mame-shiba inu because it was smaller than the rest of its litter-mates. Unfortunately they ended up with a puppy that eventually grew even larger than breed standard. Small as a pup doesn't mean small forever. Genetics decides when and how large the pup will grow! While we LOVE the standard shiba, commonly 13.5" - 16.5" at shoulder & ~18 - 29 pounds (anything larger is a disqualifying fault). We cherish the decades committed and exclusive to the breed standard size, however we now only have room for few breeding pets in our lives and so we choose to breed the much smaller shiba (mame-shiba inu). We fell in love with the variation of our bloodlines and were ready for this twist in fate when our first ones appeared ~7 years ago. Now we can help a new type of family enjoy the pleasure of living and growing with the shiba inu! Ideally people that need to travel by plane or those that need to be able to easily pick up or hold their shiba inu find this option very appealing since they still maintain great bone structure and still don't seem like a tiny or toy breed. Just a wonderful breed created naturally in a slightly smaller package! The mame-shiba inu was NOT human created by downsizing, they have naturally existed within the shiba inu genome with these particular traits for thousands of years. We don't believe in making them smaller and the genetics for this size has been around for a very long time. In Japan they are quickly becoming more sought after than the standard size because the younger generation needs to live in smaller apartments and travel at moments notice. The personality is nearly identical. In my experience the only difference I have noticed is less dog aggression. This may just be because I have cultivated a strict policy of only breeding very peaceful and accepting shibas or it may in fact be something in the genetic makeup causing a calmer demeanor in this size variation.
