Before buying a puppy it is important to understand the associated costs of owning a dog. The annual cost or "upkeep" is often overlooked when determining a Portuguese Pointers true ownership cost. When calculating your budget make sure you account for the price of food, vaccines, heartworm, deworming, flea control, vet bills, spay/neuter fees, grooming, dental care, food, training and supplies such as a collar, leash, crate, bed, bowls, bones, and toys. If the dog is raised with cats, then he/she should be fine with cats. But if not, then I would be concerned as they have a high prey drive.

My Portuguese Water Dog is 8 months old and I've heard him bark 5 times; if that much.
