Malti Poo - Maltipoo Questions

Are Maltipoos lap dogs?

Answer:
Any dog can be a lap dog. A lap dog means that the both the dog and the owner enjoy the dog to be in the lap or arms of their owner. A lot of smaller breed dogs are considered lap dogs because one can have them in your lap comfortably no matter the age of the person. Since the Maltese/Miniature Poodle cross (Maltipoo) is quite small, they are considered lap dogs, yes.

We want a maltipoo and are moving to Northern texas next to a lake. Do you foresee any problems having a maltipoo next to a lake and geese?

Answer:
In Texas, it would not be the geese you would have to worry about with your dog. Living near a lake, there is a larger percentage of Wild Boars and Alligators being in/around the water. Also, because it is a water source, it will attract other smaller animals that will thus attract birds of prey. If you are going to have any pet, no matter the size; make sure you have a sturdy, fully fenced yard and the animal is not left outside alone.

Answer:
Most lakes in Texas are man made and relatively safe. The geese might be the only problem. Geese are aggressive and may aggravate your dog.

What is the monthly cost for maintaining a maltipoo? (including food, vet visits and grooming..etc)

Answer:
The cost of owning a pet all depends on you, the owner. Where you live, your household income and what you plan on doing with your dog on a daily basis. Contact your local groomer and vet and ask them what they charge for vet visits, and grooming. Factor in a high quality, grain-free food for your dog, as well as a crate, leashes/collars, toys, bedding, ect. It is best to get all the items first, then get your pup. The only way to know what it will cost is to shop around your local area. As every groomer and vet is different.

Has anyone purchased a maltipoo ? Wondering if I'm being asked to pay too much- 900? Is that standard please help

Answer:
The mixed breed dog, Maltipoo (Maltese/Miniature Poodle cross) is exactly that, a mixed breed dog. So there are no papers and very rarely are people doing health exams on their dogs; since the popular myth that a mixed breed dog is always healthier than a pure bred dog is still out there. The average price for the designer mix is between $750.00 - $950.00. Please make sure that health checks have been done on the dam and sire and that you are getting a healthy puppy. Not one from a puppy-mill or back yard breeder trying to get in on the designer dog breeding fad that is going on right now.
