Annual cost of owning an Entlebucher Mountain Dog puppy

Before buying a puppy it is important to understand the associated costs of owning a dog. The annual cost or "upkeep" is often overlooked when determining an Entlebucher Mountain Dogs true ownership cost. When calculating your budget make sure you account for the price of food, vaccines, heartworm, deworming, flea control, vet bills, spay/neuter fees, grooming, dental care, food, training and supplies such as a collar, leash, crate, bed, bowls, bones, and toys. We are an Entlebucher family! Our love of Entlebuchers began 20 years ago with our first Entle, Ike. His fantastic temperament and handsome looks won him hearts for his whole 15-year-long life. In service of this amazing breed, we have committed to breed and raise similarly phenomenal dogs, with an emphasis on dogs who have been raised to be amazing family members. We are not “show dog people”, so although we’ve imported our dogs from top show and agility lines in Europe, our priority is to love, socialize, and train puppies who will exhibit the best personality characteristics of the breed, so you and your family and friends can fall in love with them too. Our dogs (and we) live on a farm in the Poconos in Pennsylvania, as well as in Manhattan. This allows us to acclimate our dogs to be calm, confident, and happy in a wide range of circumstances, and to give all that Entlebucher energy and intelligence enough to do! We will work with families actively on how to get the best out of this active, enthusiastic, loving, loyal, wonderful breed. Our dogs have passed all breed health screenings and are CHIC-certified with the OFA. We are members of the National Entlebucher Mountain Dog Association (NEMDA), and we are enrolled in the Avidog Breeder’s College. Prior to adoption into your family, our puppies will have received all age-appropriate health checks and vaccinations, will be microchipped, and will have been thoroughly socialized and stimulated to make their transition into your life, and the rest of their lives, as ideal as possible. Our commitment to our dogs and to their new families is lifelong. Please see our website for more information about us, our dogs, and for help determining if an Entlebucher is the right breed for you. Puppy applications are available now; please contact us for details. PLEASE NOTE: Bringing home an Entlebucher is a commitment in multiple ways. Cost of adopting a puppy is $2,000, plus a requirement to take the puppy for a set of specialist health exams between ages 2-3, which can cost $500-$1,000 total depending on your area. (We require these exams as part of our commitment to breeding dogs of the highest quality.) Puppies must be picked up in person at our home in Pennsylvania at 8 weeks of age. Entlebuchers require a commitment to consistent training throughout their lives but particularly in their first 1-2 years. Respectfully we request that you not apply for a puppy if any of these commitments are not feasible for you at this time.

Anonymous asked:
Would summers in Utah be too hot for the Entlebucher Mountain Dog?

I know that there are two Entlebucher BCOE breeders within Utah.

If you have an Entlebucher in a hot climate, you'll want to exercise the dog during cooler times of day, or in water (pool, lake, river, ocean). You'll also want to be sure the dog is in air conditioning during the heat of the day, and has lots of cool, fresh water to drink.

Anonymous asked:
Does the Entlebucher Mountain Dog breed like to roam on its own when alone?

We've had our Entlebucher puppy for 8 months, he'll be a year in January. He doesn't really roam around when alone, he'll be looking for his family, like sitting at the door waiting for you to return. He is really a great dog, but be prepared for a wild ride, he's got more energy than any dog I have ever seen, but he adores his family and will do anything to get to them and protect them.

Entlebuchers really want to be where their beloved people are. They are also quite trainable (with consistency and clarity on your part). However, they're also smart and curious, so if you leave a dog in an unfenced area for a long period of time, and the dog gets bored, the dog may go off to explore interesting things. However, overall, they will mostly be looking for you and trying to get to wherever you are. They will generally be found sitting on the other side of the door waiting for you. Unlike a hound or a hunting dog, they're not prone to running off. They have been called "velcro dogs" for how much they like to stick by your side.
