Chi-Poo - Chipoo Questions

Chi-poo's lifespan?

Whenever two or more breeds are combined, you must take the average life span of all breeds involved to help guesstimate what the average life span of your dog may be. The average life span of the Chihuahua is 10 - 18 years, while the average life span of the Miniature Poodle is 13 - 15 years. So we can guesstimate that the average life of a Chi-poo could be anywhere from 12 - 16 years.

Do Chipoo's shed and if so, how much?

Although the Chipoo, has poodle mixed into the breed, it does not mean that the dog does not shed. When you mix multiple dog breeds together, any pup can take characteristics from any of the breeds and leave others behind. Meaning some dogs shed and some do not. If they do shed, however, it would be at or lower than the level of a purebred Chihuahua, which is considered a 2 out of 5 on the shedding scale. Weekly brushing and a good diet will help reduce shedding.

Does a Chipoo shed much?

All dogs shed. But the Poodle or any mix with Poodle in it will shed less then what is considered a 'normal' shedding dog. To answer your question, no, they do not shed very much. But like all dogs, the amount of shed a dog does will depend on diet, health, and how much it is groomed.

I have a Chi Poo and his shedding is next to nothing. No hair on couch or bed and I do bathe him regularly other than once a month and brush him 2-3 times a week. But even once a week would be fine. Perfect for a person who has allergies to dogs and loves animals. I too have allergies to dogs and he does not bother me. Loves to play, great around kids, highly intelligent but very vindictive. If he feels you aren't giving him enough attention, he will act out. However, the breed is a great addition to anyone's family.
