The Cavachon is created by crossing two breeds: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise. They are typically referred to as "designer dogs". They have become popular companions, especially to allergy sufferers.
Small to medium in sie, the Cavachon possesses large expressive eyes and a sporty appearance. They are alert, sturdy, animated, and lively.
The Cavachon is affectionate, loving, and gentle. They are very family oriented and do not do well if ignored or left alone for extended periods of time. They do best with older, considerate children or with children they have been with from puppyhood. Cavachon's will generally get along with dogs, cats, and other household pets. The Cavachon is non-aggressive but will alert their family to visitors and out of the ordinary sounds.
Depending on coat type, the Cavachon requires regular brushing or professional clipping. It is important to regularly check and clean the ears. Dental hygiene is important to prevent early tooth loss. Cavachon's may be prone to such health issues as ear infections, skin problems, sensitivity to flea bites, heart problems, and hip dysplasia.
The coat of the Cavachon may be silky and slightly wavy or loosely curled.
Early socialization and obedience are recommended. The Cavachon may be difficult to housetrain. The crate method is recommended. Training must be done with firmness, fairness, patience, and consistency.
The Cavachon is relatively active indoors. They are well suited for apartment living. They enjoy family activities, securely leashed walks, and off-lead play time in a securely fenced yard.

Learn what to expect when researching the price of Cavachon puppies.

How much do Cavachon puppies cost?

The cost to buy a Cavachon varies greatly and depends on many factors such as the breeders' location, reputation, litter size, lineage of the puppy, breed popularity (supply and demand), training, socialization efforts, breed lines and much more. Review how much Cavachon puppies for sale sell for below.

The current median price for all Cavachons sold is $922.50. This is the price you can expect to budget for a Cavachon with papers but without breeding rights nor show quality. Expect to pay less for a puppy without papers, however, we do not recommend buying a puppy without papers.

Looking for a dog with a superior lineage? Are you trying to determine how much a puppy with breeding rights and papers would cost? You should expect to pay a premium for a puppy with breeding rights or even for a puppy advertised as show quality with papers. You should budget anywhere from $2,700 upwards to $6,900 or even more for a Cavachon with top breed lines and a superior pedigree. The average cost for all Cavachons sold is $900.

Annual cost of owning a Cavachon puppy

Before buying a puppy it is important to understand the associated costs of owning a dog. The annual cost or "upkeep" is often overlooked when determining a Cavachons true ownership cost. When calculating your budget make sure you account for the price of food, vaccines, heartworm, deworming, flea control, vet bills, spay/neuter fees, grooming, dental care, food, training and supplies such as a collar, leash, crate, bed, bowls, bones, and toys. All of these items can add up quickly so make sure you estimate anywhere from $500 - $2,000 or more for the first year then about $500 - $1,000 or more every year thereafter to meet the annual financial obligations of your growing, loving dog.

How do obtain papers for my Cavachon in order to breed her and have papers?

There are no registration papers for a mixed breed dog, such as the Cavachon. This is a mix between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise. The only way to be sure you are getting a true Cavachon is to have the registered paper work from your breeder of the two purebred dogs that were mixed to get your dog. After that, only a DNA test can tell you that you have a true mix of two purebred dogs.

How much does a Cavachon cost on average per year?

According to a recent report, the total first-year cost of owning a dog (of any breed and also not including purchasing or adoption) is roughly $1,270 USA. Then roughly $500.00 per year after that, but this depends on the food you buy, and if there are any sudden medical expenses or pet insurance. The first year is the most expensive as if you are starting from scratch this includes vet visits, beds, crate, collars, leashes, tags, food, toys, treats, training classes, ect. Each area is going to be different as some places are more expensive than others and of course the quality of items that are purchased are also going to differ in the amount you will spend on an average year. If you are purchasing a high quality pet food, then you could spend roughly $750.00 on just food alone each year. Or if you are purchasing a low quality pet food, then you could spend as low as $180.00 on just food alone each year. The quality of what you choose to surround and feed your dog is up to you and your dogs specific needs, this will change the average amount of money you spend a year on your dog.

Our Cavachon girl is 6 mo old and still not getting potty training, despite the fact that I have a 5 yr old boy and they go out quite often. We got her at 4 mo and mama was using pup pads (ugh) which I refuse. My boy Cavs were so easy to train?

The fact that the mother dog was using pee pads, and the puppy was watching what her mother did and did as her mother did for so long, it is going to be very hard to break that habit. It does not matter if the dog is male or female, the puppy was brought up for the first 2 critical months of puppy training to use pee pads. Be diligent, always praise when she goes outside, and clean up any messes with an enzyme cleaner to kill the scent of the accident at her level. You could also incorporate umbilical training to keep her close to you; this way you can see her signs to if she has to go to the bathroom, catch it and take her out.

Try this, ring a bell near the bottom of the door and take her outside. Our Cavachon, which we had to euthanize today due to health problems, was very stubborn as a puppy. After that first time ringing the bell, she barked to go outside. Don't get frustrated, he will learn and you will hopefully enjoy a long happy life with your pet! Our dog lived just over 13 years, the last3 and 1/2 + years she battled diabetes with twice a day insulin shots. We miss her so much.

We have a new cavachon puppy and want to get a crate for him. The small crate says for up to 20 lbs. We were told he will be 18-20 lbs. Should we get the next size up, which is for 20-50 lbs, in case he grows over 20 lbs, or get the small one?

A crate should be big enough for the dog to stand up, turn around and lay down comfortably in. He should be just fine for the 20lb crate. But if you want to get him the larger one, they will come with a divider; use it to make sure the crate is never too big for him; so he does not go back on his house training.

My Cava was a very sturdy 23-24 pounds. He would have been miserable in a small crate. Cavas sometimes get as big as 30 lbs. If you want to buy the larger one if needed, you could end up with two crates.

Will a Cavachon pup be stressed when left home alone?

We have one and set up a camera. He tends to just laze around for most of the day but seems to take a good half hour or so beforehand leaving the front door area. They are very loving caring dogs who crave close affection
