The Cavachon is created by crossing two breeds: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise. They are typically referred to as "designer dogs". They have become popular companions, especially to allergy sufferers.
Small to medium in sie, the Cavachon possesses large expressive eyes and a sporty appearance. They are alert, sturdy, animated, and lively.
The Cavachon is affectionate, loving, and gentle. They are very family oriented and do not do well if ignored or left alone for extended periods of time. They do best with older, considerate children or with children they have been with from puppyhood. Cavachon's will generally get along with dogs, cats, and other household pets. The Cavachon is non-aggressive but will alert their family to visitors and out of the ordinary sounds.
Depending on coat type, the Cavachon requires regular brushing or professional clipping. It is important to regularly check and clean the ears. Dental hygiene is important to prevent early tooth loss. Cavachon's may be prone to such health issues as ear infections, skin problems, sensitivity to flea bites, heart problems, and hip dysplasia.
The coat of the Cavachon may be silky and slightly wavy or loosely curled.
Early socialization and obedience are recommended. The Cavachon may be difficult to housetrain. The crate method is recommended. Training must be done with firmness, fairness, patience, and consistency.
The Cavachon is relatively active indoors. They are well suited for apartment living. They enjoy family activities, securely leashed walks, and off-lead play time in a securely fenced yard.

Expected Budget: Buying vs. Owning in 2018

Learn what to expect when researching the price of Cavachon puppies.

How much do Cavachon puppies cost?

The cost to buy a Cavachon varies greatly and depends on many factors such as the breeders' location, reputation, litter size, lineage of the puppy, breed popularity (supply and demand), training, socialization efforts, breed lines and much more. Review how much Cavachon puppies for sale sell for below.

The current median price for all Cavachons sold is $847.00. This is the price you can expect to budget for a Cavachon with papers but without breeding rights nor show quality. Expect to pay less for a puppy without papers, however, we do not recommend buying a puppy without papers.

Looking for a dog with a superior lineage? Are you trying to determine how much a puppy with breeding rights and papers would cost? You should expect to pay a premium for a puppy with breeding rights or even for a puppy advertised as show quality with papers. You should budget anywhere from $1,600 upwards to $6,300 or even more for a Cavachon with top breed lines and a superior pedigree. The average cost for all Cavachons sold is $700.

Annual cost of owning a Cavachon puppy

Before buying a puppy it is important to understand the associated costs of owning a dog. The annual cost or "upkeep" is often overlooked when determining a Cavachons true ownership cost. When calculating your budget make sure you account for the price of food, vaccines, heartworm, deworming, flea control, vet bills, spay/neuter fees, grooming, dental care, food, training and supplies such as a collar, leash, crate, bed, bowls, bones, and toys. All of these items can add up quickly so make sure you estimate anywhere from $500 - $2,000 or more for the first year then about $500 - $1,000 or more every year thereafter to meet the annual financial obligations of your growing, loving dog.

We have a new cavachon puppy and want to get a crate for him. The small crate says for up to 20 lbs. We were told he will be 18-20 lbs. Should we get the next size up, which is for 20-50 lbs, in case he grows over 20 lbs, or get the small one?

A crate should be big enough for the dog to stand up, turn around and lay down comfortably in. He should be just fine for the 20lb crate. But if you want to get him the larger one, they will come with a divider; use it to make sure the crate is never too big for him; so he does not go back on his house training.

Will a Cavachon pup be stressed when left home alone?

We have one and set up a camera. He tends to just laze around for most of the day but seems to take a good half hour or so beforehand leaving the front door area. They are very loving caring dogs who crave close affection

Anonymous asked:
When do Cavachons lose baby teeth then stop chewing?

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Bichon Frise cross or Cavachon will lose its puppy teeth around 6 - 8 months old. Chewing is a habit that puppies pick up during the time that they lose their teeth because it feels good on their sore gums. Only allowing your puppy to chew on appropriate things and keeping other items away from your pup will stop him/her from chewing on things you don't want her/him to chew on.

Anonymous asked:
Do Cavachons shed? Are they hypoallergenic?

The Bichon Frise is considered hypoallergenic and does not shed. However, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is not hypoallergenic and the breed does shed. They are a 3.5/5 on the shedding scale. When mixing breeds of dogs, new owners must be aware that some puppies from the same litter can take after the dam while others can take more after the sire; and then some can be split right down the middle. So it will be a gamble as to whether or not this mix will be considered hypoallergenic and whether it will or will not shed; as it depends on the pup and who they take after more. Some pups can be considered hypoallergenic because they have the Bichon Frise fur, but still shed a lot like the C.K.C.S.

Morning! I have to "TOTALLY" disagree with the answer above...There is no way that you could be a Breeder of the Cavachon mix?? We have raised this AWESOME care free mix for 8+ yrs now...And have not "ONE" complaint from shedding period...They are in our home constantly, and we never have to vacuum after a litter of 6 has played for a couple of hours...If you have a Cavachon that sheds, I am doubting the quality of the parents?? Or I am doubting that you actually are breeding with both breeds?? I normally don't get into discussions, but with 8+ yrs in this awesome mix, I think WE should know! WE have homed 1 in a home where they could NOT have a dog for allergies...They were blown away that they live very comfortably with it!! WE found this very amazing as well, and SO happy for them!! Breeders don't care much for a successful Breeder 90% of the time??? We always wish anyone the best because that is all you can ever receive from us :) Thanks

Anonymous asked:
How much exercise should I give my 2-year-old Cavachon?

An average of an hour of exercise a day. A good 20 - 30 minute walk in the morning before you head off to work. And a good 30 - 40 minute walk/run at the dog park or out on a biking trail would be a great way to end the day for your Cavachon.
