The Bich poo, also known as the Poo chon, is created by the crossing of two breeds: Bichon Frise and Poodle. They are commonly referred to as "designer dogs" and have become popular companions.
The ideal Bich poo should be robust, well-proportioned, and hardy. They are small in stature, possess a sturdy appearance, and exhibit a sweet expression.
Affectionate, friendly, and loyal, the Bich poo is spirited and has a pleasing personality. They do best in a home with older, considerate children or with children they have been with from puppyhood. They are suitable for homes with dogs, cats, and other household pets. Bich poo's are suspicious of strangers and will bark to alert their family to visitors or out of the ordinary sounds.
The coat of the Bich poo requires frequent brushing and professional clipping to prevent matting and tangling. Bathing should be done when necessary. It is important to keep the ears clean to prevent infection. Dental hygiene is important to prevent early tooth loss. Bich Poo's may be prone to such health issues as PRA, epilepsy, diabetes, cataracts, and skin disorders.
Loosely curled and may be wooly or coarse in texture.
The Bich poo may be difficult to housetrain. The crate training method works best. Early socialization and obedience are recommended. They will not respond to harsh or heavy-handed methods. Training must be done with firmness, fairness, patience, and consistency.
The Bich poo is well-suited for city and apartment living. They thrive on family interaction, securely leashed walks, and off-lead play time in a securely fenced yard.

How big do Bichpoos get?

Whenever you mix two or more breeds together, it is hard to figure out the exact size a dog when full grown will be. However, you can take the average of both or all breeds involved and get a range that you can view to see what the dog could grow into. Since the Bichon Frise is normally bred with the Miniature Poodle, it is quite easy to estimate the average size. The Bichon Frise typically stands at 9 - 12 inches at the shoulder and ranges from 10 - 20 lbs. While the Miniature Poodle typically stands 10 - 15 inches at the shoulder and ranges from 12 - 17 lbs. This means that a mixture of the two breeds together will most likely average out to be roughly 11 - 14 inches at the shoulder an range about 15lbs. However, there can always be dogs that take after more one breed than the other, even in the same litter. One pup could grow up to be 10 lbs and only 9 inches tall, while another pup from the same litter could be 20 lbs and 15 inches tall. Whenever you mix breeds together, there is no set standard, only a range that you can estimate by adding the breeds involved ranges.

My female is mostly like poodle. She is 7 lbs varys at 6 oz at meal time. Otherwise, 7 lb. Poodle cut. With a natural curled tail. Bright white in color. So very soft hair. With allergies to chicken & grain. Eats 1/2 cup max. 2 x day. Otherwise, chew bones. Very sweet in nature. Must keep face and feet groomed shaved. Ears combed. Non shed.

Anonymous asked:
In your breed characteristics stats, you say grooming requirements for bich-poos is high, how would you need to groom this dog?

Both Bichon Frise's and the Miniature Poodle need to be professionally groomed an average of once every 2 - 3 months. When mixing the breeds together, it becomes the same. Their thin fur tangles easily, so they need to be brushed every day. They also need to go to an experienced groomer every couple of months for a full groom.

Anonymous asked:
Are Bich-Poo's hypoallergenic? Good with children?

Both the Miniature Poodle and the Bichon Frise are considered hypoallergenic; so yes the mix is as well. Both breeds can do well with children as long as the children are respectful and do not play rough with the dog. Bichon Frise' and Miniature Poodles are small dogs and have small bones; they can be injured easily by jumping on/off beds and couches or if they are played with too rough by children. All interactions between the child/children and the puppy/dog should be supervised at all times to ensure that the puppy/dog is respected.

Any dogs that have poodle in them should be hypoallergenic and dander free. They are also very kind toward children. Our Bich-poo is a therapy dog for kids. If you are looking for a hypoallergenic dog, I would suggest poodle mixes, If you don't like the look of most poodles, try different breeds.

Anonymous asked:
How much grooming and exercise does a Bich-Poo require?

The grooming requirements of the Bich-Poo is every day. You should set aside 10 minutes every day to brush your dog. However, they also should be going to a groomer about once to twice a month, depending on how dedicated you are to your dog. The Bich-Poo needs about an hour of exercise a day at a light jog such as going to the dog park and playing with other dogs, or a brisk walk.

Anonymous asked:
My Bich-Poo is 2 years old and weighs 19.5 lbs. Is he too fat?

Not necessarily, but, your Bich-Poo is quite large. In all dogs, you should be able to lay a hand on the dog's side and feel the ribs without having to push your fingers in. Do understand that with furrier dogs, you will have to move your fingers to the skin to do this. Contacting your vet is a good idea, as they can give you body fat analysis for your dog. Switching your dog to a grain-free, high-quality food and taking him out more often for exercise for at least an hour a day will help your dog loose weight. The Bichon Frise ranges from 11 - 22 pounds while the Miniature Poodle ranges from 15 - 17 pounds. So he is in the range, but if you can not feel his ribs, he could stand to lose a pound or two.

My little guy was always between thirteen and fifteen pounds. The bigger the better. The tiny dogs always look too delicate to play with.
