Annual cost of owning an Australian Kelpie puppy

Before buying a puppy it is important to understand the associated costs of owning a dog. The annual cost or "upkeep" is often overlooked when determining an Australian Kelpies true ownership cost. When calculating your budget make sure you account for the price of food, vaccines, heartworm, deworming, flea control, vet bills, spay/neuter fees, grooming, dental care, food, training and supplies such as a collar, leash, crate, bed, bowls, bones, and toys. All of these items can add up quickly so make sure you estimate anywhere from $500 - $2,000 or more for the first year then about $500 - $1,000 or more every year thereafter to meet the annual financial obligations of your growing, loving dog.

What age can you start training a Kelpie puppy to move cattle and sheep?

The moment you get your pup, he/she should be integrated with sheep and cattle. Once your pup has finished basic obedience, he/she should be ready to be taught to move cattle. I would suggest at about 6 months your dog is ready to start.

Does the Australian Kelpie Heeler have webbed feet? Do they like water?

Kelpie's do not have webbed feet. I have a 3-year-old Kelpie, who was a little apprehensive at first but he now will swim in the sea even when it’s rough (waves of up to 6 feet), he’s also capable of swimming a kilometre nonstop with ease.

My Kelpie loved the water. She would take off chasing sea lions in the ocean and would not come back! Scared the hell out of me she would go 3 or 4 hundred yds out past the breakers. I loved that dog to death. She was by my side for 12 yrs in my opinion the best dog you can get.
