Hi,

I have a canary which has leg mites. Is there anyhing that can kill these critters without facing a vet bill?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

rub oil on the legs, It kills them by smothering them. Leg mites only live on their legs, not in the cage. If you keep their legs oiled for a few weeks, the old damaged skin will just flake off and fresh new skin will grow back. Any kind of oil will work, baby oil, cooking oil, vaseline, motor oil, just make sure you get the whole shank (unfeathered portion, and go a very small way into the feathered part of the leg. I raise chickens, and scaley leg mites is a common problem in silkies.
