I really need help with puppy supplies. especially food. I am not sure which brands to buy. Which stores have the best selection and prices but aren't bad for your dog? what are the best beds/toys etc.?
most importantly: what brand of food? again, I don't exactly have a money tree in my back yard so I would like to keep it to a reasonable price. like $20. All I ask is that the food does NOT come from china! thanks!

I dont think were allowed to give out any names of foods, but look for one that says its holistic, no corn or other grains is good.
I dont recall you saying the breed you were buying the food for, but for med. size its easy to find food for less than $20

Heres a few of my favorites just in case it is allowed, im still trying to get to know whats in the grey area

brandon farms has put out an organic food, i like the ingrediance in the canned but the dry is good too.
Chicken soup for the Dog lovers soul is reasonable and so is wellness, natural balance and Innova. Im skeptical of the blue buffalo product since it was a part of the recall, the way i see it if they dont know they are putting that poison in the food, how do they really care about whats in it. Nutro foods has also put out an holistic kibble, I put my Dog on it for a few days and shes seems ok with it, but waiting on the meat to return.

I feed and recomend a Raw diet, if you would like to know more about that visit www.rawfed.com myths section and feel free to ask any questions on that.

you can fold up a blanket cheaper than buying a bed.

you didn't say what size Dog

PetSmart has several holistic brands now.

you can google "natura" for ingredient info

& here is more

Reasonable price......like $20? What do you expect to get for $20? Hopefully not all the items you have mentioned here. A bed alone can cost $20 but as sue stated, you can fold a blanket for free. I see no need in overpriced bedding.

As for toys, I have spent very little on toys and I have also spent a fortune on them. Different dogs prefer different toys. It may cost a few dollars and some experimenting before you find a toy your pet will be happy with. You did not mention the breed which helps in finding/suggesting toys.

When it comes to food, you can expect to pay a bit for food if you want good results from it. The holistic foods are a bit pricier but your Dog will need less food and in the end will be the better bargain. Check the site sue posted, it has some wonderful info on different feeding options.

I think the poster means $20 for a bag of food unless I am mistaken. I feed Canidae lamb and rice. It is one of the better, less expensive foods. Go to their website and it has a store locator. What kind of Dog are you getting?

my pooch:

It would be most helpful if we knew what breed of Dog you had, age, and any on going medical concerns which may relate to dietary needs.

Petsmart and Petco both carry a fair selection of foods. I won't tell you which one to get, only that these options are open to you to learn about and try.

As a great favor to yourself and your dog, you can learn about pet food, instead of relying on others to tell you what's good or bad in their own opinions.
You can come to your own conclusion.

Additionally, I made a website with a simple list of many good foods (in alphabetical order only). It can give you a starting point to investigate.

I meant $20 max for Dog food per month.
The puppy is medium/large sized.
sorry I wasn't clear on this before.

I hope you plan on rescuing...that is great. Remember the bigger the dog, the more expensive the food.

I think you may need to think about what you are getting into alittle better, its hard to feed a med size Dog for $20 a month even on the crappy foods.
I think for a good food you need to consider more like $40-60 a month depending on what you call med size

I agree. It cost me more than $20 a month to feed my min pin on the Canidae food (and treats). She is only 11 pounds, and doesn't over eat!!
