I'm not a fan of useing human products on dogs. You can find some good Dog shampoo at almost any store that has Dog products. |

We use puppy shampoo on the heads of our doggies and regular Dog shampoo on the body because the puppy one is no tears. I don't think using human products on animals is very good because it might harm the dog. |

You shouldn't use human shampoo on a cat or Dog as the PH level is too high, but I did hear that baby shampoo is okay because it's much lower in PH (meant for babies, after all, lol). Still, nothing beats a shampoo that's designed for dogs, something that'll give them a nice, gleaming, healthy coat. |

I've used the "no tears" kind of shampoo on our dogs a couple of times with no problems. I'm pretty sure the original formula was actually tested on animals. |

babys shampoo is better than some of the shampoos out there but its not suited for Dog fur. Hair and fur are alike but allot diffrent at the same time and have diffrent needs to clean and protect them. Granted you can and the Dog will smell good for a day or two but its not good for the fur.
It a matter of detergents vs soaps |

Not all dogs are afraid of water. Some just need time to get used to it. My guess is it has much more to do with feeling out of control as it does being wet. |

Baby Shampoo would be a better choice, vrs adult shampoo (like we use) for our dogs if those were our only two options. Baby Shampoo is normally more gentle on the hair and skin and makes it a little more acceptable for use on dogs.
The ingredients are different as well as the pH values of the shampoo's.
I have a few different dog/cat shampoo's but I've been known to at times use human dandruff shampoos (sparcely) and human conditioners for some of my fosters that had very very dry skin. But on a normal basis, I would use a Dog shampoo.
I think the water part, is largely attributed by how your Dog is introduced to water, and at what age. If you start young, and make it a positive stress free and short experience and continue this, they will be more likely to accept a bath into adult hood.
Things like forcing your Dog to swim in a lake (if they don't like to), taking a hose to them, or using a spray bottle on them as a type of discipline can form a bad association between a Dog and water.
My current adopted girls will in no way get into a large body of water, I've tried to take them to lakes and the ocean the put the breaks on with all fours! They also will not accept a hose for a bath, you'd think the water was acid. They will however, begrudingly accept a bath in the tub. |

Out of my 2 dogs, I have one who will actually swim and loves it but hates the hose or shower. The other hates swimming and bathing but loves to be sprayed with water whether it's the shower, hose, spray bottle, etc. They bopth LOVE the rain.
Maybe like Mao said, it might be that feeling of being out of control. |

What about liquid dish soap, like Dawn? I heard that it is good for killing fleas. The Flea/Tick shampoos never seem to work. |

Dishsoap will kill the fleas by suffication, just as any good lather will. However its not good for the coat because it strips everything out. I use deflea on all my pets, the shampoo and spray are the same thing, just diffrent bottles so by the shampoo and use it as a spray. Its all natural no chemicals and WORKS! You probally just need to use more soap with the flea shampoo, a good lather will be shaving cream thick and left on for however long it says. |
