I had a similar idea when I was your age, just make sure you be careful cause dogs can be very random and sometimes aggressive. I work at the Petsmart Petshotel so I know what it is like to work with dogs everyday. That would be a great job for you if you want to see how a real doggy day camp works. It is not always fun. We do have play times and day camps and also board dogs and cats, but sometimes people get bit. Most of the dogs are sweet and great, but sometimes there are times when we get aggressive ones that make trouble for us and other dogs. So good luck and just be careful! |

Everyone here makes very valid points. It seems that what you're really trying to do is a small Dog walking/sitting service. When you say doggy daycare, that would indicate a facility that owners can bring their dogs to with a reasoable expectation that someone would be available for the dog's care while the owner is absent. This would require constant supervision. Since you're 12, it would be reasonable to expect that you would be in school for a large portion of the day and therefore be unavailable to attend to the needs of any dogs. The liability that everyone is talking about refers to the transference of responsibility for any acts commited by a Dog in your care where from negligence, ignorance, or even intent. In other words, if you accept the care of the dog, you accept that you will pay for any harm that the Dog may cause while in your care. If the Dog bites someone, you have to pay the hospital bill. If the Dog gets loose and tears up the neighbor's flower bed, you have to pay for the damage. If the Dog kills another Dog while in your care, you have to pay to replace the dog. Most doggy day cares have insurance to cover this. Since you're not of legal age, (depends on your state) you cannot enter into a contract with an insurance company. And most would require you to be 21 or older before they will insure you. So, keeping to an offer to look after the neighbor's Dog on THEIR property and walk them (if they are a well mannered animal) is your best option. |

Stop being so rude to everyone you post. You will hurt somebody's feelings like you did mine. |

well arent you the little business lady!! i remember what its like to be 12..love animals and need money...since there are several kids in the household and its hard for you to get your own money...why not try this instead...make up some fliers...pass them out to all your neighbors...let them know that you are willing to wash their dogs during the summer months...at their homes...let them know the reasons why you would like to do this...charge 10.00 per dog...and good luck...it is too risky to take the dogs off the owners property as other posters are telling you...there are also other things you can do like wash cars...weed gardens...help with lawns...etc...put all the jobs you feel like you can do on your list with a price... |
