I believe I responded in another thread.
Aren't you the one who is 14 years old?
A doggy day care is a business.
It is UNSAFE, not to mention illegal (if you are of working age) to start a business with out going through the proper hoops.
You can't just collect dogs in your communities, put them in your living room and expect all to be well, that could be disastrous.
What if the dogs fight, what if someone gets really hurt, your 14... where are you going to come up with the money to reimburse the pet owners for their injured dog?
I would try asking your parents for an allowance, or offering to walk your neighbors Dog for them (for pay).

I'm 12 and wouldn't be having them in the house, I would be walking them around outside my house, and this would be a good way for me to get some exercise! I don't get what you mean that it's illegal for me to walk a couple dogs and play with them!!! Most of my friends either babysit little kids or they doggysit! What is the working age? |

I would prefer to have little dogs, and I would slowly introduce my little Dog to them. She's been acting kind of lonely even though I give her non stop attention! What do you meen by "Go through the proper hoops"? I have already asked for an allowence, but in a house with 5 to 6 other kids in the house, it's kind of hard to do because then everyone would want an allowence and my mom doesn't make enough money to give 7 kids an allowence! Not to mention I'm the oldest!!! |

You said "business". Opening a business is NOT a simple process. When AZ said "proper hoops" I think she means that you must first be of age to work in your state (16 here). You must then go through legal steps to become a business as well as having insurance for yourself and clients. The city you live in may require a special permit as well as guidelines for your "daycare".
What are your plans for the daycare? Owning a doggy daycare is a different than being a petsitter/walker.

Well I think that what i'm going to be doing is a VERY small business with my neighbors and friend's neighbors, so I wouldnt have a bunch of dogs in one room, we would come to the dogs house and stay for however long the person needs, coming back everyday to walk, feed, and maybe groom the Dog (or cat?) and to clean up after them. I just want to start with a tiny tiny business.
So actually, im more of a petsitter/walker like gbat was talking about. |

that's the kind of thing that I want to do! My mom doesn't really want me to start babysitting little kids until' I'm thirteen and so I only need to wait 6 more months! I just want to earn a little bit of money because caring for a Dog at my age with no allowence is kind of hard to do and I don't want to give the Dog back to my grandma. I love my Dog so much!!! She's my baby!!! |

LoveMyCrested:
Yes, a Dog walker/pet sitter is what you're looking to do. A doggy day care is a different thing, which is why I was concerned when you mentioned it.
You can walk neighborhood dogs, kind of think of it like having a paper route or doing lawn chores for neighbors.
Until you are of legal working age, you can't open a business in and of itself, nor could you work for an existing pet sitting company.
But you can try to make some extra loose chains by helping out your neighborhood.

Bad idea, can you handle giant breeds that could drag you or cause you harm when you tried to walk them? Have you considered the liability if you were unable to control the dogs on a walk or if they got out of control and got injured or killed? Have you thought about the costs to have business insurance so you don't get sued and to prevent your family from loosing everything they own? Boswer |

IN MY OPINION... Its not really appropriate to ask people where they live. Nor is it a good idea to tell people your age or where you live on the World Wide Web. I understand you say you are young and so I hope you will take this advice to heart. There are bad people out there lurking and you never know what they will do with the information you don't even know your giving them. Just want to keep everyone safe. |
