This might be a stupid question but do Puppies never bark at all? My toy Poodle is about 10 weeks old and he never barks, but only makes squealing noises. He squeals when he's scared, excited or when he wants to go down from a sofa or a bed.

When is he going to start barking?

Hah. My Dog Squeaky did the same thing. When he was a puppy he would want attention so he would go into the corner and squeak. (hence his name) Dont worry your Dog will bark soon enough. Untill then just enjoy the quiet! ( or the almost quiet )

Yes, your Dog will bark in time. Enjoy the quiet while you can. There is no specific time frame from Dog to Dog or breed to breed on when they will start to bark.

I just love that puppy squeal. I totally agree with the others soon enough he will find his voice. A lot depends on the temperment of the Dog and the environment the Dog lives in. I was told my dogs breed were fairly vocal. My Dog seldom makes a sound. Only time will tell how much your Dog barks.

Enjoy your new boy. Congrats.

You better enjoy the little squeks while you can cause soon enough he or her will start barking and you will wish he would stop, and you will totally want to eat your words.

My yorkie pups try to bark even at 4 days old. At 3 weeks they try some more and it actually comes out as a bark...cutest little barks ever. They tend to stop doing this as they understand what is going on around them and then refind a not-so-cute bark around 6 or so months old. Like others said, enjoy it while you can

the only Dog i know of that does not "bark" is basenji.just because the Dog isn't barking doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it.dependimng on the age it might not have found it's voice yet.but in your eyes if the Dog just doesn't seem right by all means take it to a vet.good luck and hope nothing is wrong with your dog

some dogs just doesn't like to bark like my Chihuahua he only barks when he is playing with other dogs. He grunts a lot though. When i picked him up from the breeder and we were driving home he kept saying ughhhh and i thought something was wrong with him i started freaking out but my friend noticed he only did it when we were talking i guess he was trying to go to sleep (how rude lol) he still does this to this day. he also does it when he cant get comfortable in his bed, when my friends Dog steals his food and if someone wakes him up just to name a few. Savor the moment because my friend got Dog thats my dogs half brother thats a couple of months younger than him and he barks all day, he sits by her window for hours and just barks at people passing by. dogs are different from each other just like people and they express themselves differently.
