In the post before last it says "There is no way to tell however Im almost positive she withholds food" That is supposed to say im positive she does not withhold food meaning that se feeds him how he should. I just e-mailed her asking if him or his parents are OFA and CERF tested. |

I would highly recommend 12 weeks for such a small pup. Make sure you keep him away from all other animals until he has all his shots, and keep him inside. I do admire your dedication, and hope that holds true. Don't confuse that with me agreeing with where you are getting your "mutt" from or the entire byb idea. Your dedication would be just as beneficial to the hundres of pups at shelters and rescues needing a home. Supporting breeders like this does lead to many more dogs in rescue or shelters. |

What does bybstand for? I am new to all this Dog stuff and have no idea. I know Im probably wrong buying a pup as I watched a movie today on animal shelters and cried. Im going to adopt one as soon as my pup is old enough. He is coming with all his shots and needs one booster. The house Im living in there is another Dog but he has all his shots. Is this going to be a problem. Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate the information and advice |

Look, you sound like your going to try to be a good Dog owner, so I don't want to bash you. I'm thrilled you'll love your Dog no matter what and I'm happy that your willing to do what ever it takes to make things work. But MILLIONS of dogs will die this year because of people like the one your buying this mix from. Does the world really need a MORKIE? What does it have or do that either the yorkie or maltese did not have or do? A cute face?
Many people will argue.. if people didn't mix breed dogs we wouldn't have many of the purebred breeds we have now. Yes that true but what they fail to realize is back in the day that many of our pure bred dogs were being created MILLIONS of other dogs were not being put down because there were not enough homes for them. Back then every Tom D and Harry were not breeding to make a quick buck or to make back the money they spent on their dog.
There are enough pure bred Dog breeds you could surely find one you'd like without having to support a bad breeder.
Oh and yes your breeder is bad. Anyone breeding a 3.5 pound yorkie or maltess is not a great breeder. Breeding runts to get runts is not a great idea. It will only lead to health problems down the road for the Puppies produced. Oh and by the way the size of parents is not the only determining factor in size. Grandparents and even Great Grandparents can have some say in the size your Dog will turn out to be. Its call throw back genes. Thats why its important to know the gene line of the puppy you are buying.
Clearly I'm not going to change your mind and thats fine but I wanted you to understand the passion of those of us fighting the never ending battle of death.
I truely hope your Dog grows up health and happy.

i'm glad you are realizing why so many on here are against breeding "mutts" and selling at a high price.
byb stands for backyard breeder. It is anybody who breeds Dog specifically for monetary benefits. Someone who does not show or work their dogs, who doesn't care about breeding for the standard, who does not care about the breed itself.
The breeder you got this pup from is no doubt a BYB. health contracts/guarentee does not mean a breeder is reputable. sometimes you have to read the fine lines when it comes to contracts/guarentees. this breeder obviously does not care for the maltese or yorkie breed..she is only breeding these dogs on one factor..cuteness.
Breeding a Dog is not just about putting one and one together..it is very complex and requires lots of planning, experience, and education. Do you know whether or not the breeder did any health genetic testing on your pup? if so, can she show you proof?
I got my Dog from a byb and although she is the greatest thing in my life and i would not trade her for anything she came to me with so many problems. She had coccidia which has never really cleared up..she occationally will have bouts of diarrhea esp under stressful times. Her living condition was harsh which caused her to be malnutritious and become food aggressive. I did not know about bybs until i came to this forum and the people here are trying to educate you so that you will learn from your mistake. i hope that your pup comes to you strong and healthy...if you need more advice this place is a really good place, honestly.
good luck! and post pics of your new fur baby whenever you get the chance.

Thank you for all the replies! They are greatly appreciated. I now see the reasons why it is not such a good idea to get a mixed bred dog. I probably should have done more research about breeders and everything before purchasing one. Ill just keep up to date on all his vet checks and everythng and continue to do more research before his arrival. Hopefully this will prevent any medical problems and I pray that my puppy will be strong and healthy!! |

basically the point is there are millions of mixed breed dogs in shelters rescues & pounds - no need to buy them from "breeders" that are really only out to make $$ - and more often than not - it will be at the dogs & the new owners expense both financially & emotionally.
I have had MANY designer mutts in rescue - there are plenty in pounds.
I even own one that I couldnt adopt out due to her very bad temperment.
sh eis a chiweenie.
but when i take her out in public if a person asks me what kind of Dog she is i tell them she is a mutt. And i got her from the shelter ( all which is true)
i dont want them to think "ohhh what a cute dog" find out the designer label name - and run out to buy one.
I am glad you love & care for your Dog but in my opinion- the best thing to do when asked what KIND of Dog it is say a mixed breed.
promoting the designer name - is what makes others want to buy them hence keeps the breeders pumping them out.

Very well said!! I agree PLEASE don't call your Dog a Morkie. As far as recognized breeds go it isn't one. R.W.is right Call your Dog what it is, a mix. |

jenna, just so you know about shots, they are customarily given at 8, 12, & 16 weeks.
According to the protocol for all 27 vet schools in N America no Dog or cat should have VX's before 8 weeks of age. If the breeder has given 2 before 10 weeks of age, your vet may not accept them. I would talk to the vet before the breeder gives another shot. Not somebody in the office the VET. He may just elect to add a fourth to the series. |

Thanks for the replies. I am going to tell everyone it is a mixed breed! I am preparing for his arrival considering he comes in 13 days! I purchased a snuggle puppy. Also I was wondering if I should get a puppy play pen instead of a crate? This would give him more room to roam around when I was not home but I know a crate is more efficient to use for helping potty train him. I am using potty pads though. Any suggestions? |

I have always used both. Some people say stick with the crate.
I use the playpen when my pup was awake but had already pottied and been played with and I needed to get work done. I used the crate when I was away from home or asleep. I never encouraged my pup to potty in the pen as I wanted it to be seen as a play area not a potty area. |

Good for you. Do they allow dogs?
Do you have everything you need for your pup?
Isn't it all just so exciting. :) OF course I hope you expect to miss some sleep for the first few weeks your new pup is home. They normally have to potty at least once in the night. |

How exciting?!?!? I hope everything goes well for you! As for training them to use the piddle or potty pads, they worked great for me. My puppy used to wake up in the middle of the night, jump down from bed, go potty and crawl right back into bed. Now if he has to go in the middle of the night, he doesn't even bother using his pad (which is on the floor and untouched for over a month now)...He just scratches at my hand to take him out. He learned well. I think the play-pen thing is a good idea but I would wait til he/she is better potty trained. I used to put my pup in a cage when I left him alone but now he does so well that I gate the kitchen and leave him in there. There is wayy more room for him and he doesn't make as much of a mess.
I'm by no means an expert because I always look for advice on here also. I'm just telling you my experience. I hope it helps! Good Luck and let us all know how he/she is when they come home:)

Thanks for the replies! 10 days until my pup comes! I can hardly sleep now. I am so excited. I am going to go out and buy everything for him and the apartment very soon. I have some odds and ends but still have a lot of shopping to do. I know I will probably miss some sleep for a while but it is all going to be worth it. The apartment complex does allow dogs so I wont have to do any sneaking around or anything like that I was kind of nervous having to move on my own considering ive never lived alone before and my house is always full with people because I have such a large family. I wont be alone though because Ill have my pup. It deff puts me at ease |
