Fact or Fiction. Is it true that if you feed your dog raw eggs once a month or so that their coat will be shinier?

I wouldn't know about a shiny coat, but I have heard that eggs can be good for the skin, so why not the coat too! My mom believes that an egg or two occasionally is good. I give my dogs Salmon Oil and Cod Liver Oil, which helped Rico's skin look much better. When I reduced the amount of the oils in his diet he looked duller and dryer than he did when he had the full dose of it.

Just so everyone knows I won't stoop to Kayz level. I won't go attacking her anymore. I've said my piece and I stand my ground on Purina. My dogs ROCK on it and if you'd like to know more, see how Kayz REALLY is when it comes to "not attacking people" then look back a few pages. Anything having to do REMOTELY with dog food we're there, battling it out. Some of our "non-attacks" have been locked even so they're easy enough to find. Gang, feed what you want. Feed what YOU as individuals believe in. We all have our own preferences and opinions AND budgets. Just so you know and don't waste your fingers--Don't try and argue with Kayz on dog food. It's like talking to a wall. You'll get yourselves all worked up and honestly it's NOT worth it. I learned that after hours of fighting with her. It was like fighting with my children and just as productive...on 2nd thought I get FURTHER with my children. Hmmmm...Anyway you all feed what you will and let Kayz live in her little "Kayz always right, everyone else is wrong" type of world. She's happier there and it keeps her out of our REAL world. Take care and may all your animals be safe and sound and well fed tonight.

Eggs have both protein and oils and both are good for coats and skin. Some people suggest that the egg be cooked. And I think to improve the coat you will have to feed quality proteins and oils every day, once a month will not make a difference.

You stand your ground on PURINA?? What the heck? WHY does anybody bother? Purina has to be the worst of the worst, you say it works WELL with your dogs. Do you have any idea what's in it? Any food that your dog eats should be etible for humans, too. In my opinion, EVRYBODY stoop to Kayz's level, because she knows what she's talking about when it comes to dog food, and Purina is certainly crap.

People have a right to their opinion. And if their dog is doing fine on one food, good for them. If you feed something else with good results--then good for you. But attacking a person's choice of feeding shows a great lack of respect for differing opinions!! And as other's have said--at least people ARE feeding their dogs and taking notice of the results. And many of the Holistic posts are not as accurate as you may think. Even the description "holistic" as beeen questioned on other websites.

I know you're right--it was rude of me. But it's so discouraging to see people continue to feed such a low quality dog food, even AFTER everyone goes to the effort of giving them all the information and how much healthier it is for their dogs. It really is something better, and people say they love their dogs. Why don't they act on it? I know it's one thing if they can't afford the best choice, but if they can, why not? You'll have your loved one even longer in the end, and if it's a matter of money, you'll probably end up paying more vet bills as the dog gets older.

You'll have your loved one even longer in the end, judging by that statement all my pets should have been dead far longer then they actually did die. lets see...i had a golden lab mix who lived to 15 1/2 yrs of age....he started out eating science diet. then he was fed purina one then ate for the last 6 years of his life iams adult dog food. i had 2 cats who started out eating friskies or meaow mix and then were switched to purina one and both cats lived to be 19 years of age. the cat my mother in law had ate purina one while she lived with us then when she went to live with my MIL permanently she ate deli cat and lived to 18 years of age. one commonality between all of them ?......they all ate purina at some point in their lives and ALL lived well beyond a normal lifespan. would i ever feed deli cat or friskies to any of my cats now ? NO.....but i would feed them purina one again for sure. the cats i have now i have to feed a prescription diet to because my male will continually block on the food he was eating before. wanna know what that food was ? WELLNESS !!! so my pets get fed what they do well on and so far i have had success

I like to cook for my dogs, as I think they do better with fresh meat and I supplement with dry dog food (I won't say what brand, I don't want an argument). It's nice that people do care about how their dogs are doing and take notice of that when they feed--whatever brand. But I know this is more than some people can do, so I give my opinions without putting down other's. My sister fed a medium grade dry food to her 2 large mix breeds and they lived to 18 and 17 years old--far longer than most large breeds. And they never had health problems, they died of old age. There's nothing wrong with offering up your ideas of good feeding.

That is GREAT! Sorry for the deaths of your animals but they for sure got more than their lifes worth out of theirs! This is what I've been saying all along! No Purina is NOT a holistic food. BUT animals get along just fine and dandy on it. There ARE other foods out there and they DO live long and HEALTHY lives on it. This is just one of millions of cases that proves it! YAY! Maybe my animals will follow your lead and live to 18! Please, please, please!

We fed our pups a hand-prepared raw dies from 9-10 weeks to 6 mos, consisting of veggies, rare beef, oils (i.e flax seed, etc.), vitamins, digestive (powder) enzymes, level 5000 - more or less. We have continued the rare diet but have switched to Bravo, which comes in a frozen roll that you thaw out. It has the veggies, yams, etc. and the necessary bone and organ meat that our rare beef alone did not have. It has to be ordered from a vet and is not sold on-line or at retail. In addition to the raw we have always given them a kibble in addition. The one we've used since the beginning is "PHD." Since finding out about Innova "Evo" we have started alternating the kibble between both. Multiple sources have mentioned that alternating between two kibbles is the best way to assure you have all bases covered. Our pups are Italian Mastiffs (Cane Corsos) and they love the EVO and have had no stomach upsets since we've started mixing this in 3 times a week for the past two months. Visit www.bravorawdiet.com and www.phdproducts.com as far as EVO is concerned there are tons of sites if you do a search.
I'd like to point out that EVO is *not* recommended for large breed puppies. I feed EVO off and on, I dont' liek th eidea of such a high amount of protein being a constant element in my dogs' diet.

Yes, yes, yes! Cooking for your dogs, (fresh meat, veggies, eggs, occasional rice, I think) is the best way to go! (I also add plenty of dry food, Solid Gold) Dogs thrive when they are fed naturally and their coats are beautiful! I can say, I have to italian greyhounds...

Yup, trust Kayshond to ruin a perfectly good post (and everyone's day). Well, anyway, I feed my puppy Pedigree (I know, Kayshond!)which I try to better by adding cooked chicken/meat. She's on Nutriphase dry food, which she kindly refuses to eat! I will switch to Royal Canine when she's a bit older, since that's the only "good" food you guys keep talking about available in SA.

Kazy only came back to revive a dead post--that no one was interested in to start with -as she was the one who started it. She has he own "talk forum" and she does not stir up trouble there (maybe because no one will send donations as she requests to keep it open) she comes here to insult people. Frankly, I just think she wants attention--any attention, good or bad.

Ever notice how she does that here and there? If anyone else cared, THEY would revive the thread! Oh well! Hope everyone is having a nice, relaxing Labor Day! I'm baking and taking it easy with my family!! Yucky day out here so I may as well be comfy and having fun!

Maybe that's because everyone there knows good food, therefore there's no reason to squabble? I really think everyone should buy at least ONE bag of premium dog food and then they can decide if the lower-quality stuff is still as great as they think. It's pointless to fight about something when you haven't experienced both sides. My own pets did great (or so I thought) on the grocery store brands, then I tried Nutro and they all improved dramatically. Now I don't give junk food a second's thought.

Okay for the record I HAVE tried premium dog food. The results? Canine Caviar-dogs still hungry even after varying amount given. Science Diet-Dry coats. Natural Choice-dry coats. Blackwood-good food BUT dogs wouldn't eat after a few weeks on it AND it's hard to come by in my area. Hundenflocken-GREAT food, VERY expensive in my area AND not easy to come by regularly. All else-not available within 3 hrs of my area. Shipping is NOT an option as I live in Alaska and shipping is more than the product. For everyone out there who seems to think I'm some dumb a** Get off of my A** about feeding what I believe in! Purina PURINA PURINA is the ONLY food which has provided everything I need in a food! My dogs are full, their coats ROCK and yes they poop more than on other food but WHO CARES! I live in ALASKA where it DOESN'T MATTER! I can AFFORD this food which provides EVERYTHING I REQUIRE IN A DOG FOOD! If someone out there wants to ship me something else by all means go for it! Until then understand some of us ARE KNOWLEDEABLE and STILL LOVE PURINA! AAAHHH!

Here, have a brandy - met ys! (With ice) Although you probably have enough ice. Alaska, wow! Is it nice to live there? Seen lots of pics and stuff - it's beautiful! I also like Purina. At the moment I use Pedigree but am thinking of switching either to Purina or Royal Canin - reason is the same as yours: all the other food these guys talk about aren't available in South Africa! But I do like Purina and have heard lots of good things from friends feeding it to their pets. Hope you feel beter and not anymore!
