Petland is aware of the many animal welfare issues in the news today. We know that members of some animal rights groups would have you believe that all pet store puppies are bred and raised in substandard facilities. This is untrue. Petland also disagrees with the agenda of animal rights groups that would deny people the right to own and live with companion pets. Petland stores are independently operated by qualified franchisees. Each is responsible for choosing healthy pets offered to Petland customers. Petland, Inc. provides each Petland store with humane care guidelines to assist in this important task. At the corporate level, Petland, Inc. is involved with other pet industry leaders to see that Petland puppies and kittens are raised in sanitary breeding facilities and are cared for by licensed pet professionals who pay careful attention to their welfare and veterinary needs. The pet professionals we are associated with also share our commitment to the highest standards of pet care. Petland staff members visit facilities to make certain standards are maintained. In addition, these facilities are licensed and inspected by the federal government. Where do Petland puppies come from? Locating healthy puppies and kittens is a priority for everyone at Petland. Petland puppies and kittens come primarily from three sources: Individuals in your local community who breed registered pets and offer occasional litters. Licensed professional distributors who purchase registered pets from professional breeders who are inspected and licensed by the United States Department of Agriculture. Petland has developed relationships with professional pet distributors who are working to provide state-of-the-art pet care facilities and offer superior veterinary care to Petland puppies and kittens. Members of Petland's corporate staff conduct on-site inspections of pet distributors' facilities to ensure the highest animal care procedures and facility standards are maintained. Petland requires all new Petland store operators to adopt pets from Petland, Inc. associated distributors. Most Petland puppies and kittens have been health-checked by two and in most cases three veterinarians before they are offered to the public. Purebred puppies and kittens and most Adopt-A-Pets from Petland leave the store with a health warranty covering infectious diseases and hereditary or congenital disorders.

Okay one thing, do you really think that if petland got their puppies from a puppy mill they would tell you? These pictures on their websites are obviously staged, just like the pictures you see on Disney commercials. They have a huge smile on their face and are all clean cut with their makeup perfect but when you actually go there, you see people sweating, panting, sitting down without smiles, and wanting to leave early because of all of the walking. Do not believe everything you see, read, or hear.

I'm confused...AGAIN. I thought Funny Bunny complained about people posting on "her" thread? Why do you have to start this up again! and no, Ana, I do not own a petstore...I bought my puppy from one.

I feel Im asking legitimate questions... find some unbiased info on petland and I'll stop posting.. Thats not asking too much, is it?
3/21/2005 2:24:11 PM
yes it is! I know nothing about Petland. And I'm not spending my days looking...I'm busy with my puppy and trying to debunk your party line. and by the way, most of your info seems to come directly from your militant websites.

unbiased opinion I prefer to get my information straight from the horses-mouth (so to speak) Your unbiased information would not doubt come from some anti-petstore militant website. I'll pass. I do not own a petstore nor do I work at a petstore. I would however love to work at Petland or own a petland but I don't, sorry to burn your theory there. I volunteer at multiple local shelters and pounds ! How about that. That is where I get my accurate information on how awful they can be and the majority of the dogs/pups in them are sickly. I have like I said had both, petstore dogs and shelter/rescue dogs. Just sharing my experiences with everyone on here. You will not ever convince me that all petstores and bybs are BAD. I know the contrary, sorry.

That is just the point. Here let me try this. I will speak as clearly as possible so people will understand. I never said I was pro puppy mill. I never said ALL petstores are good. I never said ALL BYS are good. I simply said not ALL petstores get there dogs from puppy mills.

Oh, I know you didn't just stick up for pet land. I have a petland very close to me and I personally have had a MASSIVE issue with them. I went there speaking to them about getting a new pet and after a long time and about 400 dollars later came out with a baby Ball Python (formerly known as gonzo) and ALL equipment to go with it. Including things I found out later that I "really" didn't need. The second day I had him he DIED! Under warrentee still I took him back to the pet store since they "needed to see his corpse" the corpse of a pet that even though I had for a short time I loved. Than accused me of maybe "dropping" him or something. Which was not at all true. We took him to the vet for an autopsy and the vet said he felt that it wasn't anything that I did to hurt him as I had taken any and all precautions for his arrival and had everything set up as should be. Even after the vetrinarian talked with the OWNER of petland they STILL gave me a rig a maroe about replacing it. After calling every day for 2 weeks and my very large very unhappy father going in to talk to the man did they say they would replace it. AFter saying they would replace it it took them 3 ENTIRE MONTHS BEFORE THEY REPLACED HIM!!! That snake also died about 2 months later because it refused to eat. Anyone who knows about snakes knows that refusing to eat is a trait of ball pythons however when I asked to see the snake eat they told me it had just eaten. So a lot of fault on my own for trusting a pet store but as for high standards of petland they absolutely infuriate me and also as a few other notes the snake that I purchaseds cagemate had died in the store a few days before (however they assured me that mine would be fine) and when I went to the vet for the autopsy a person who bought a dog was there and the dog had pneumonia! ((just wants to scream))

Furthermore more things I forgot to add is the vet told me he seemed mal nourished and dehydrated to him when I took his corpse there. Once again for somone who was a good customer of petland I was outraged by the service I recieved. They weren't at all apologetic, friendly, or anything. basically there entire deal was the fact they didn't wanna suck it up and replace it. At that point I really didn't even want another snake.... I had taken him back with tears!!!

And I forgot this also... When we were really upset we asked the owner for the franchise # and he refused to give it to us.

All living things, including purebreds, can have innate medical issues. This is not determined by whether or not a pet comes from a pet store Petland puppies and kittens have been health-checked by at least two and in most cases three veterinarians before they are offered to the public. Every Petland store has a local consulting veterinarian. The consulting veterinarian: Performs weekly examinations on new arrivals, and if necessary, provides medical treatment. Completes a Puppy/Kitten Care Record to document each pets health upon its arrival to the store. Has the authority to have any pet that fails a health examination returned to the original breeder. Sets the protocol for in-store preventative health procedures. Petland stores are staffed by trained, full-time kennel technicians, who are responsible for daily sanitizing of all kennels, ongoing cleaning, maintaining health records and working under consulting veterinarians instructions. A daily health record is maintained on all Petland puppies and kittens. This document keeps track of eating and drinking habits, weight, and other veterinary information. Purebred puppies and kittens, and most Adopt-A-Pets, from Petland leave the store with a health warranty. The warranty covers infectious diseases for an initial period plus hereditary or congenital disorders for one year.

Now your not trying to indicate that a person wouldn't have those kinds of issues had they adopted a pet from a shelter or rescue are you ?? Because that would just be false.

Frankly, I don't think Bridgett is telling the truth...doesn't it seem just a bit odd, that funny bunny's other personality (which just showed up today) bought from a petstore in the first place? then, again, maybe she did do something do it?
