I want a puppy so badly, but my Mom says no just because I'll be going away to college soon and doesn't want the dog to be sad. Are there any colleges that teach interior design that let you keep a dog in your dorm room or something? I want a chi so bad.

It's unlikely that you can take any pet into any halls of residence. If you could rent an apartment or share a house with other students you may have more luck finding a landlord who will let you have pets in the building. But then you'd have to find room-mates who wouldn't mind and who didn't have pets of their own that might not get along with a Chi. Maybe you'd be better off waiting until after you'd finished college before you think about getting a dog?

I for one agree with your mom. This is not a good time in your life to get one. I know of no dorm in the US that will allow you to have a dog and very few apartments in college towns will allow dogs and the ones who do charge extra fee's that most college students can't afford. Chihuahua's bond strongly to one person,(although they may like others) this person is the light of their worlds and they want nothing more than to be with this person 24/7. Which Normally includes sitting on, being held by or sleeping next to their person. They don't do well when they are not with their "person". Often they will stop eating, and get depressed. Chihuahua's can live to be 15 and up. The next 15 years of your life are going to be some of the busiest and most unstable in your whole life. Between collage, new job, marriage, kids and who knows what elce, there will be many changes that would make owning a Chihuahua very difficult. The next fifteen years of your life will also be the hardest financially, paying for college, paying rent, car payment and so on. These things will make having a Chihuahau very difficult, where will the money come from to pay for the vet bills. These little dogs can rack up a vet bill pretty quick. Although I can totally understand your want to get a Chihuahua now, I'm totally confident you will be glad you waited.

Trust me there are no dorms that allow a dog. besides you want to be able to make your choice of schools based on the school or even where your friends are going and not a dog. I would plan the first year in the dorm. You will REALLY miss out if you don't. After that you can rent an apartment or house with some friends and then look to a pet. But you have to keep in mind your priorities and committment to the dog. This might mean giving up a really cool apartment later that doesn't allow a pet. It also means leaving parties early because you need to walk your dog. I wanted a dog my whole life. I had to wait until I was 22, finished with my bachelors degree and married. We knew we could committ to a dog then even if we were renters that we would make sure that any apartment or house that we got would take a dog. This was not easy. Start a dog savings account. You will be able to get a really nice dog and have money for medical expenses. Start researching breeders in your area. If you save enough you can get on a waiting list for a really great breeder's puppy.

Hi, I am glad this board went well. I have a chihuahua (I am going into 10th grade). She is soooo much work! I have been homeschooled so I spend ALOT of time on her. I will be going to private school soon, but I wwill most defently still be spending loads of time. I agree in collage and after collage it can be a real mess. So if youwait untill you settle down then you will be able to have a dog and be able to give good care. Good luck!
