I was wondering, beside the greyhound, what are the fastest Dog breeds?

Whippets I would say is second to that of the Greyhound. They're rather fast and great sprinters.

Mattress does the same. She gets very excited when i'm out back to play rather than inside, letting her just run around with the other dogs. Once, she did run in a circle so fast that one of her legs gave out and she tumbled right onto her face. It was funny and she just got up and ran around again. She can be very hyper at times making her difficult on walks. When she runs, she RUNS. Fast little bugger. It is funny to see a Dog run and their butt and hind legs give out for a second, making it roll across while the rest of the Dog is still going strong, until they finally get their legs up under them again and continue on running.

I have a wonderful image of a fat whippet in my head now!
I think most of the sight hounds are very fast. Lurchers are crazy little (well, not really little...) things that bound everywhere!
Dobermanns are quite fast but they have greyhound in their ancestry.
Sled dogs should be fast as well - Huskies, Malamutes.

In the breed's history they were used by many different members of a tribe and were traded frequently so if they retained that aspect of their ancient personality, they're unlikely to become too devoted to one master. Having said that it's entirely possible that they could become very attached.

My Australian Shepherd and Aussie x Border Collie mix are FAST! My Aussie is smaller than my mix and keeps up with him AND beats him at an all out, dead run! They're QUICK and agile! They'll do in and outs with the trees, go run in the woods, over logs and such at a flat run! I really enjoy watching the 2 of them get frisky and go run their course.

I think someones speed gun is a bit off. Grayhounds are the second fastest animal on the planet and they only run around 45 MPH. Saluki usually run around 28-34 mph.
