I only use Delta because they do have great animal policies. Your dog is the last on the plane and the first off, and travels in a temprature controlled cabin. You need to call Delta Cargo!

There was a thread on here about a week ago about a dog that languished for days in Delta's system. The dog that is still lost that was at Westminster, Delta lost. I would guess that they are no worse than the others as the recent statistics showed the airlines loose 10,000 bags a DAY! If you are shipping a puppy, the stress often jepordizes their immune system which makes them more at risk for things like parvo. You would need to check with the airline that you will be using as they have different criteria,.

The last I heard about the westminster dog was they think the crate had been dropped really hard sometime between check-in and the time they were loading the crate onto the plane.. By dropping the crate, they think it broke the spring lock. A sad sad situation. Ive shipped my previous dog and cat several times but had no choice..and they were adults to boot.. I would in no way ship a puppy thoough. There are too many risks associated with shipping, not to mention never meeting the breeder in person.. You really dont knwo where your pup is coming from. I have to question a breeders ethics who ships a puppy to someone they have never met in person.. Just my opinion..

You'll need to find out which airlines fly from Arizona to Wisonsin and call each regarding how pets are shipped. People vary on their opinion as to which is the best. Also you'll need to realize that travel of any kind can be stressful and take appropriate measures to care for your new baby once he/she arrives. Make sure you have Nutri-Cal or White Karo Syrup on hand to ward off hypoglycemia.

Actually my friends dog was shipped by Delta and they just left the dog on the conveyer belt without even notifying her about it and she paid the extra money to make sure the dog was going to be supervised from boarding until it was picked up by her and instead he was just left unattended for who knows how long, shivering and Delta seemed unconcerned and very unsympathetic as if it was just mere cargo she was angry about. And they did not to return her money especially the extra she paid SO THAT the dog was supervised at ALL times. I really think all these airlines are just out to make money and none care that much that it's a living creature. I'd be especially worried if it were a puppy being shipped as they do need more care than an adult dog. So my recomendation is to not put 100% trust in these airlines and do it at you're own risk, cuz they will sometimes dissapoint. My friend's dog till this day won't calm down when he's about to board a plane and so he can no longer travel with her. Apparently being left on a conveyer belt while other passnegers were all around the area picking up and grabbing thier bags must have traumatized and really scared him.

NorthWest airlines was used by the person I bought my Shih-Tzu from. He was fine when we picked him up in Alabama. He rode in the cabin like a passenger. However, we made sure that there was no time between his flight arriving and our picking him up.

I thought Reputable dog people would never ship their dogs or puppies? I guess there is an acception to every rule!

This worries me - I hope you aren't buying a puppymill dog. Most reputable breeders will not ship.

I believe a lot of reputable breeders ship! But everybody has a different opinion on the subject. I have show dogs and I ship and the show dogs I have bought have been shipped to me. To be honest I haven't met a breeder yet who hasn't shipped a dog, but there is a first for eveything!

Yup, you got that right.. Those I know that show their dogs DO NOT ship "pet" puppies to people they do not know or have never met. In order to get one of their pups you must fly or drive to them. Shipping a dog for show purposes is whole different issue.

Maybe it depends on the area. In my area most do not ship. We have 4 dogs and have had to drive to the location to pick each one up.

I think you misunderstood, I have never seen it phrased that way. What I believe you are referring to, & has been stated many times is "reputable BREEDERS" do not ship puppies.

The person I bought my Shih-Tzu from, knows me and lives 3 states away. The drive would have been longer than the plane ride was.

I have been looking on the internet at puppies and wondering about shipping. I finally came to the conclusion that if I couldn't fly to where the puppy is and look at the breeders, their animals, and their surroundings, that I would not have a puppy shipped. Not to mention that all puppies have different personalities, just like people, and I would want to see the puppy to make sure that it would be a good fit for both of us. This limits my choices as I probably can't afford to fly so I will look in areas that I can drive to when the time is right. "If it was meant to be, it will be."

original poster: i used american airlines to have my pup shipped from texas to ny. on their website i found a link that explains all the rules and regulations for shipping animals. costs vary on the weight.. my pup was in a really small travel crate and all together it cost me around $150. Another thing is that they have temperature restrictions.. if its too hot or cold they wont ship the animal... check out the site i found alot of good info there. good luck with your new pup.
