I have known that for a while. I would love to buy their food my my cats and dogs, but I am just too afraid to go back to it. About 5 years ago my vet told me about their food and when I checked it out it seemed pretty darn good.
Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul is also made by Diamonds parent company also. It was not a line that was affected from the toxin, but Kirklands Cat Food on the east coast was so I am very leery of any Kirkland brand right now.
I am sure it was a once time freak incident and they are probably doing extra testing to make sure it doesn't happen again, I am just afraid to take the chance.

I tryed the Kirkland organic and all 3 dogs got runnyish poo, which is really weird for my big guy as he has a stomack of iron. I'm very happy with the Pro Plan. Why mess with a good thing?

Wow, they sell the Kirkland brand? Ive never seen the brand anywhere but Costco. What store is it? Where are you? It seems like I remember you being in Alaska, but I could be way off.
Costco caters to convenience stores and sell many items to them. C-store owners are some of the biggest customers Costco has

Please SHOW me where I'm shoving it down anyone's throat? By the way, why don't I tie you to a chair, print out the holistic food topics from this site, and physically shove them down your throat?

Hello, I Just joined and have been reading posts in this blog.. Thank you all for your input.
We just put our boy down a week ago, he was 15 1/2, a Shepherd/Golden Retriever/
Husky? Mix? Got him from the pound at about 13 weeks old. For most of his life, he was rasied
on Costco dog food. Over the last 2-3 years we had switched to their
Super Premium Lamb & Rice blend with Glucosamine/Chondroitin. The Vet said at 15 1/2, his life was like
George Burns.
To ease the pain of his loss, we got a new Puppy. A 8 week old Collie/Siberian Husky Mix.
I have been searching the Internet and reading articles for the best foods to feed
our new boy. I am after reading these posts, and a lot of lables, most likely going to raise this pup
on Kirklands dog foods as well. From a personal standpoint, I myself have never been unhappy with
any Kirkland product I have used.
Thanks again for all the input,
BrandyVSOP

A note about fillers--Think about white grains like flours and rice. People thought fillers and fiber were bad at one time. Time has shown that fibers are needed to keep the human pipes working properly.
I recently saw a paper frome a vet that said the human practice of housetraining a dog and forcing them to "hold it" much longer than normal is causing some dogs to develop internal problems later in life. The vet recommends more frequent trips for the dog to relieve itself.
Who of us can wait all day at work and never use the restroom? And I am against buying any dog food simply because of less poo.

the reason better food make less WASTE ( POO) is becasue the dogs absorbes MORE of it into the body- resulting in less need to eat a LOT & LESS waste..NOT that these foods CAUSE the dogs to be constipated all day
UNLIKE cheap foods filled with bulk fillers usually undigestable ( like CORN ) and the dog has FAR more waste.( hence the dog eats MORE and craps more)

i am gald i read this thread - sadly i do NOThave a costco - BUT this food according to lable - sounds GOOD and can save me a FORTUNE in the foster dogs foods.
we are usually using wellness & EVO for fosters.
BUT i liked the ingredients of this food- if i can FIND it I would like to try it.

My dogs love Kirkland but I took them off of it because it has beet pulp in it and the white faces turn red.

I too, have white dogs, but I have not had any problem with faces turning red. Are you sure it was the dog food?

I emailed Costco about this, and was assured in writing that the Kirkland brand wet and dry pet foods are NOT involved in the Menu Foods recall.
If you go to the Diamond Pet Foods website, they will tell you the same thing about their products.
I just did another round of searching this AM, given that they've included one brand of dry dog food in the recall now. Kirkland still seems clear.
We've been feeding this to our Shepard/blue heeler mix for years now. We used to feed Natural Balance, but given what I learned from Whole Dog Journal I decided that the Kirkland met their criteria for good food. Did someone say that Whole Dog Journal officially ranked it?

My dogs love the Kirkland Chicken and Rice.... It is nice to know the Lamb and Rice is also made by Diamond.
Their winter time poo is slightly softer than I like, but, it is nice and firm during the summer. Anyone else have that experience? I can't think of any reason for it... but, they seem to do well on it.
As to the fish oil capsules, my dogs eat them as treats. At least they think that is what they are. Once they bite through the capsule and get a taste, they relish them and can't wait to get one. Give it a try... I find no reason to give these like it is a medication.

Hi there,we have two Bouvier's. Last time I was at the vet a customer there talked me into buying Kirkland dogfood. She swore by it and said for the price it was great food.I gradually mixed the food until they were on a regular diet of Kirkland. My Dad also did the smae and his dog is sick too. It was a horrible mistake. The poor dogs have had diarrehea for weeks.I am gradually putting them back on their regular food which is Nutram. It has been an awful experience and I will Never switch again. If you have a good food and your paying a little more for it there is probaly a good reason for it.

My Chow Chow loves Kirkland Lamb and Rice. She actually had stomach issues before I fed her it. She hasn't had any stomach issues since I started feeding Kirkland Lamb and Rice to her. A vet told me to try it and said it was a very good food for her. She's been on that food for 3 years now and her vet says she's super healthy.

I feed y dogs nothing but Kirkland dry. My last dog that past away, she lived to be a good 14 years old and had rarely a sick day in her life. I did alot of comparison shopping, and the ingredient list was the best of any of the commercial foods, especially for the price. My dogs have healthy weight, are never sick, have nice coats, and have the right energy level. So, you get a vote for me on the Kirkland. Most of the other stuff out there is garbage you pay extra for because it has some sort of gimmick.
Just my 2 cents

We have 5 Boxers and they do very well on Kirklands Lamb & Rice dry food. It seems best for their stomachs, alergies and their coats. They eat their meals every time quite aggressively...they love it. We've tried other brands but always come back to Kirklands at Costco in Winnipeg.
