I am not trying to start another argumentative dog food thread. But, a couple of days ago someone said that they read somewhere that Costco's Kirkland Lamb and Rice Dog Food was voted the best. I was wondering where that was that you saw that.

Here are the ingrediants, what I noticed is there is no wheat or corn. I read the the egg product is one of the best protiens for dogs(not sure if its true). There are lots of veggies. Also, the 40lb bag is $17.99. Obviously its not holistic food. But, what do you guys think?

I think that would be me.. Someone on another dog forum (westie Forum), said that Whole Dog Journel voted Kirklands brand the best..beneful the worst. Ive heard it was pretty good food. Kirkland produces some excellent products.. They have a website but for some reason I can't seem to get to it..

Oh you beat me to it... I think it looks pretty good. Are you thinking about changing brands? What are feeding your dogs now?

Well, I bought a bag last night. I am going to mix it with the rest of their old food, so that they dont get an uspet stomach. I was feeding Purina One, I think this will be better. I like what I am hearing about it. I like the fact that there is no wheat. Sissy has been chewing on her paws, Im thinking this might help.

I hear ya... My westies are prone to skin allergies from wheat , corn and soy... They do not show any signs of skin problems, but why feed something that could potentially cause problems.
Let us know how theyre doing on the food.. Ya might want to start adding some fish oil, flaxseed oil, or Evening Primrose oil to their food.. This will help their skin and coat... Just a teaspoon each time you feed them..

Do you buy those oils at the petstore? Or the grocery store? They seem to really like the food. But, I think they always like somehting new and different. Its funny when they eat it, bcuz it is mixed with their old food. So, they will spit out the old food onto the carpet next to the bowl. Then they will eat that after all the new food is picked out. They crack me up!!

haha Yes, mine did that too.. You can get the oil at the grocery store... Ive seen the fish oil in capsules (you'll have to prick it with a pin and squirt it on). The flaxseed oil comes in a squirt bottle. I can find it in the fridgerated health food section at my grocery store.. You can get all of them at a health food store..

I'm not an expert on food by any means but those ingredients do look pretty good, especially for $17.99 that's cheap right?

Yes, but you have to have a membership to Costco. But, the membership is only $50 for a year. I love the Kirkland brand, they are always quality products.

I bought a 42" round dog bed at Costco. It is also Kirkland brand. It is so nice and very fluffy. I bought it there for 20 bux. Similar beds Ive seen in catalogs and the petstore run 40-50 bux.

LOL Guess we're lucky where I'm at. We have stores that SELL Costco brand but no membership required. I'll check and see if they sell this. Im pretty sure they do. I'm always game! I have to switch food every bag anyway.

Wow, they sell the Kirkland brand? Ive never seen the brand anywhere but Costco. What store is it? Where are you? It seems like I remember you being in Alaska, but I could be way off.

LOL Yup, your memory is right on! I'm up here in Alaska. The store is one of the few we actually have where we can buy in bulk. It's 3 bears and I'm pretty sure they have it there. NOT positive tho!

I bought some fish oil capsules. I know you said to squirt it on their food. But, I was wondering if it would be ok just to give them each a capsule per day. They are really slippery so I can push it down their throat. This is easier and less stinkier than sqirting on their food.
