I believe that as long as you have enough SPACE (not a propblem where I live!)and can take CARE of them all, then you can have as much as you like. I know of Boers that have hundred's of cats living on their farms to catch the mice and rats and other small rodents that eat the corn while it's being stored. But, alas, very few farmers get in the SPCA to neuter them meaning that most shoot them to keep their numbers down. So, yes. I believe as long as you have the resources, you should be allowed to have as much as you like. |

I think a limit is ridiculous. I live in a suburban area in a major metro area. There are some people with one pet and a filthy house, others have many more animals and they are well cared for.
One town near me has a limit of 2 dogs. Once they passed the law many owners were stuck because they had more than that. It is only enforced if people complain. So aggrivate your neighbor for a different reason, you could get retribution on your dogs.
I think it is a quality of care issue. If a town wants to put a limit on the number, they should only be able to intervene when there is a filth issue or a poop pick up issue. |

I believe that you should have only the number of pets that you are willing to spend quality time with individually on a daily basis. so say you had four cats and two dogs; if you couldn't spend quality time with each one on a daily basis, you have too many. |

Great point! Just because someone has only one pet doesn't mean that their pets condition is better than that of someone who has 10 pets. Geez, some people are slobs and they don't even have pets. So I feel ya on that one. |

i think the amount of animals one has should be directly related to how well they can take care of and afford them. not necessarily a number. if they have to scrimp on things just to have that many then they probably should downsize. i have 3 dogs, 2 cats and a guinea pig. |

Hoarding is considered Hoarding when you cant take care of the pets but if you treat them with love and respect they will live too! |

I think it's not how many pets you have but the amount of money you are able to spend on them, the room you have, and the time that you will need to spend with that animal. I have two hermit crabs and it takes them about a month or longer to molt and during that time you are not supposed to disturb them, so for a month out of ever three months I don't even need to do anything with them but check the humitity and temperature levels, as for my puppy though he needs attention every day for hours. I have a lot of animals but I am able to properly care for them all, it just takes up a lot of my time, and money, but heack it's my hobbie. I own two hermit crabs, a cocatiel, two finches, three fish, a dog, a cat, two horses, and a lizard. |

i think that everything depends on the situation...and this would be it... how much room you have where you live how close to neighbors how much time you have to invest how well you do what you do what kind of a person you are and what kind of values you have...money would be the last thing as it comes with all of the above..... there should be limits..and that is why there are limits...if there were none...people would have kennels in backyards all over the cities and anywhere else you could imagine...there would be dogs on chains in every yard...cats...running amuck...and on and on...noone would get any sleep..and animal controll would have to hire a million new employees...and...the shelters would certainly be far more overloaded as the animal controll officers would be on the run 24/7 in mass numbers....so to say there shouldnt be any regs is a ridiculous thing to say.....people will take advantage of any given situation...thats why rules have to be made...please!!!

I agree too that you can have as many as you can care for properly, I have two dogs Belgin Shepherd mix GSD pup Three cats 5 rats and two fish tanks, ALL are Rescuses all are taken care of well get lots of attention proper nutrion and exercise (they keep me VERY busy) and i still have a clean home I will soon be fostering as well, my parents who foster will have up to 18 cats at a time along with there 2 recuse dogs but they get homes pretty fast and are all taken care of and still keep an extremely clean home, Its all in the care, although some towns have laws on how many dogs or pets you can keep in our town the law is 4 dogs except for in the case of fosters. |

Hi I have 3 dogs and 2 hamsters and fish..Im done because I have a small place but if one Dog died I would go out the next day and buy another one I have to have 3 dogs ,, the most, 2 the least,, 1 Dog is boring for the Dog not to have another Dog to play with and be with I had one Dog at one point and because he was the only one he followed me everywhere...and needed constant attention. I love it when there is 2 because they amuse each other and they are fun to watch... |

my friend has a rottweiler, just recently rescued a jack, and is getting another jack.they all get along very well.my one question is the rottweiler eats newmans and loves it.the jack refuses to eat that and loves royal canin.she noticed though that royal canin has corn in it.she wants to keep the dogs on the same food if she can.i thought corn was bad for dogs, and does anybody know anything about royal canin. |

There is no limit on how many pets you should have.It just depends if you can take care of them. |

I agree that it just depends on whether or not you can take care of them properly. Not just feeding them and stuff, but letting them have enough exercise and space. I have 2 horses, a puppy, an older terrier mix, and fish. I think that in small apartments there should be limits because of the small amount of space and the closeness of neighbors |
