I have two female dogs. One is almost 4 and the other is 2 1/2. I have had the 2 1/2 yr. ols since she was a baby. The 4 yr. old I adopted at 22 months. They have always gotten along great, but in the past week they have gotten into 3 fights. Can anyone give me help with this. We love these dogs like children. My husband is threatening to get rid of one of them. Help me please I'm desperate, but I also want to do what's best for the dogs. If finding one of them a new home is best then I will do it.
Thank you |

You didn't mention if both of your girls are spayed? If not, please call your vet and make an appointment ASAP. That should help, but won't necessarily be a quick fix. I'd also recommend contacting a Dog behavioralist right away and scheduling a consultation ASAP. There are too many unknowns regarding your dogs' lifestyle for anyone here on the Internet to really be able to help you... |

They are establishing alpha. One is getting froggy and challenging the champ. Until they are both certin of this (who the alpha is) they are gonna test one another until the pecking order is established or re-established. Get them spayed and they wont care or let them figure it out without allowing them to hurt one another or keep them seperated. |

"They are establishing alpha."
Good point. That very well could be, but by their age I don't think the fighting should have just started happening. There could be other problems or recent changes in the home that are causing tension between the dogs or even health issues. That's why I would recommend a visit with a vet and a behavioralist. |

Thank you for all your replies. Both my girls are spayed. There are a few changes in the house. For one my Aunt got a puppy 6 weeks ago and we all live in one house. However this did not start until this week. The other is I took a part time job. I have been home with them all day every day for the past year. They do fine when we are gone, no fights. My lab mix did go after the pup today when she got to close to me though. But I got her to back off right away.
Thank you |

That's very interesting. I used to own a lab mix and a lab and they fought constantly! I was told by my vet that they were both dominate dogs and were just fighting to decide who was the best. As they got older, they grew out of it and went back to loving each other like they did as pups...lol |

Wow, thank you for the hope. But my hubby has decided the lab needs to go and it's his dog!!! He is threatening the pund. NO WAY will that happen. I am aggressively looking for a good home. If I have to lose her, I want to know where she goes. Thanks all for your help. |

I have a question? I have two male dogs and one female. The female is a dalmatian. One of the males are a Boxer and the other is a border collie mixed with austrilian sheperd (sorry for spelling). Both of the male dogs have been living with each other for pretty much their whole lives. Then we got the dalmatian and like a year after she started living with us the two boys starting fighting. My family and i have tried everything and nothing works. If we put them together they like kill each other. Any ideas??? |

all i could think of is about the 2 females is sometimes little new things can stress out some dogs.it can be true that later in years dogs then decide to start fight.because one Dog may start to understand the other is growing up and might try and be top dog.but the one who was there longest(as in knows you and loves you more)usually ends up haveing beef with the newest(othr female). As for the 2 males.there fighting to show who is alpha.Kinda like who gets the sloppy seconds,or first hits kinda thing. my brother brought his 2 males in and then he got a female the vet said that both males are fighting to show whos boss.fighting over the female. try this puppyfind.com this goes for both of you. check out that site look up your breed and read the first page on that breed. it informs you its tempterment on how it reacts if a girl is in the mix or if a male is.its good info.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM but only my 2 dogs are males.. I just got them fixed hoping to help the situation and it was JUST done 10 days ago so I have to wait one month for all the testosterone to get out of their system and then see how they act. It is bad to see them fight I have a chi and a yorkie the chi was my first I bought him at 8weeks and then my yorkie was my second I bought him at 6 weeks. They all got along fine until the yorkie got bigger than the chi the chi is about 9 or 10 pounds and the yorkie is like 13 pounds. Well when they fight the yorkie bites the ears and head of the chi and wont let go I am horrified ...the chi sometimes bleeds its that bad. SO I was advised to fix them and I did and now I have a small 2 pound female chi. Im hoping that everything will change now but if not my yorkie may need prozac as per my vet I dont like that idea. I hope all works out for u ,,, |
