I seen a significant decrease and I'll be the first one to admit that when Wolf and Felice went on the "junk" fod they'd have really big craps for medium-sized dogs. My mom couldn't believe the craps that would come out of them. LOL! There'd be so much crap from them that it could easily fill a 15 oz container of Country Crock butter, which posed a problem when it came time to do fecals because we'd then have way too much crap and more than the vet actually needed to even do the fecals.
Now, I see craps so small that it fills maybe 3/4ths of the container. It's a really nice decrease in crap. 
As for firmness and looseness, in the start it was loose but now it's starting to firm up. I was told it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to really see it become nice and firm once you've made the switch. The reason being is that it's cleaning out the system of all that "garbage" that went in with the "junk" food.
I remember one Poodle owner telling me that after she switched Gidget to Innova she was like, "OMG! What did I do?" She thought his stools would never get firm, but after 8 weeks they went from being loose to firm and she was breathing more easieer following her switch.
Patti, one of the gals on KeesTalk, uses Solid Gold, like me, and she said that after she put one of her Keesies on it she actually noticed a string pass through. Later on when she went to the home of the previous owner she noticed a couch in the garage and apparently the Dog liked to chew on it. The string the Dog wound up passing after having been given the Solid Gold was actually from that very couch. The reason being is that the colon is getting a really good flush from the holistic food which needs to get the "garbage" out completely before it can really do its thing.
By the way, I feed my dogs once a day, usually in the evenings. Sometimes twice a day, once in the early morning hours and then again in late evening. My dogs go once a day, sometimes twice a day but never more than twice a day now. They used to go 3 or 4 times a day on the "junk" food because they were eating more due to the very fact it was less digestable and had all those icky fillers and by-products in them. |

You're obiously doing self-feeding and there's nothing wrong with that. I know other Dog owners who do it and have terrific results from it.
But getting back to holistic food and wther or not it makes a difference in how much they poop - yes. Because it's easier to digest and has no fillers and by-products the dogs eat less and will therefore poop less and that's just what we call "common knowledge". 
Not only do they poop less, but won't have the runs as much. That was always a problem for us with long-haired dogs that had britches. LOL! Not anymore.  |

I switched from a vet prescribed food to Innova EVO, and the difference is incredible! His coat improved tremendously...the vet even told me the other day that this time of year they are seeing extremely dry coats. She said my dogs coat was beautiful and wanted to know what I was feeding him.
Another thing I noticed he no longer has foul breath that knocks you over. I noticed this about a month after he had been on the Innova EVO.
Regarding stools.. At first they were soft and sometimes abit runny but that straightened out after a good 2 weeks. On the previous food he would go poo 4 to 5 times a day. On the EVO, hes now going only 2 times a day.
If you look at the daily requirements on various different brands of food, the higher quality foods daily feeding requirements are less than the lower grade foods.. I used to feed Andy about 2 Cups a day on the low grade stuff.. with the EVO he only gets 3/4 of a cup per day, sometimes he leaves some behind.
Ive mentioned this in previous posts.. I have read that some hyper dogs actually calm down after changing to a premium brand of Dog food.. I noticed this a little bit in my Dog after changing his food but it couldve also been due his age; he was just coming out of his puppy stage.. |

Thanks, and the thing about loose stools. Sierra goes a lot and the stools are very loose do you think it is because of the food they are fed. And if so then why doesn't Rocky have the some problem. His stools are small and firm and he goes about once a day. |

I switched from the food that the breeders fed chazzy, Authority puppy chow, and the difference was significant. At first his stools were loose and he pooped like 5 times a day, but when I switched to a holistic food, he only poops 2-3 times a day and his stool is firm. |

I have never heard the claim that it "calmed" their Dog down. The only time I've ever heard that is in connection to spay/neutering them. Is this something a lot of people notice? |

At the end of AnAsAzi's post (I think it was the last paragraph) she talked about the food calming her Dog down. I have never heard of it myself, that is why I brought it up. |

I hardly think that food will make your Dog less calm. If anything, they might make your Dog more playful! |

Actually, the food you feed CAN have an impact on your dog's energy level. "Junk" foods that include corn gluten meal have been said to make some dogs hyper. |

Yep. Corn meal is a source of carbos. Carbos are a source of energy. Since corn meal makes up for much of the ingredients in a poorer quality kibble, some dogs can become hyper as a result. |

and it doesn't smell nearly as bad, they poo less, eat less and are healthier. In the long run spending more money up front saves me more money in the long run. Did I mention that it doesn't smell like the dogs who pooder and can be smelled a block away! |

I have recently switched Dog foods from Diamond to Chicken Soup. Duncan's poop was gritty while on the Diamond and now it isn't. Not near the stink either. |

I agree on the smelly part. Sometimes I'd have to breathe in some pretty good stink bombs. LOL! I have yet to smell a really bad crap from any of them. |
