Quote FunnyBunny: I've tasted both Dog food and cat food. It's not all that bad. It all depends on the brand it is. Kibbles n Bits was probably the best tasting Dog food. I know that sounds strange As for cat food,... |
Hey, your not at all wierd. When I was like, 5, I ate a whole barbeque flavored Dog biscuit. That was okay! |

Blue Buffalo (found at Petsmart)
where at petsmart do they carry this, I've worked for the company for two years and have never seen it once. I've worked at two different locations in two different states .
I can't even find it on the website. |

Canned Dog food oddly enough, tastes worse than kibble. I'm not sure why, maybe it's the texture or maybe it's your mind playing tricks saying "I'm eating Dog food, i'm eating Dog food" Either way, I spit it out once I tasted it but the dogs sure do enjoy it. |

All of 3 my PetsMarts carry Blue Buffalo.
And yes, they list it on their website under 'BLUE'. (see: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_list.jsp?AS...) If you look just above the 'BLUE' on the bags you'll see the blue buffalo. |

We received a sample bag of Beneful at Costco. Our 7 year old Fox Terrier loved it, but we immediately noticed she was drinking a lot more. The Vet said that it probably had more salt to make dogs drink. Over the next year our Dog went from 24 lbs down to 18 lbs. The Vet could find nothing wrong. The Vet prescribed Hill's prescription diet. Six months later, our Dog died of kidney failure just after she turned 9 years old. Two different Vets could not give us any reason for her untimely death, but no autopsy was performed. Was it the Dog food??????????? We'll never know. |

Nutrition is the foundation of health. Don't take chances. I feed my two mutts and exceptional food called Life's Abundance. You can get a free sample at freesample.longliveyourpet.com. |

I really don't understand why someone wouldn't choose or at least try a premium food. I used to feed my Dog Proplan but switched to Nutro Ultra Holistic. You know I pay a bit less per day to feed the guy on the better food? He eats less of it and has smaller stools. In two months, I went through 15# of the Proplan. It's been 2 months and I'm halfway through the #20 bag I bought. |

You guys are still working on this post? 0____o
I'm in the process of learning to take my foster Dog off of premium dry and onto the RAW/BARF Diet.
One of my cats is on a 100% natural bland diet, she is sick and we have no idea what the problem is but her blood work is a bit out of whack.
My suggies are on a natural diet, my rat is half and half. I'm still not sure what to do with my other 2 cats yet, I am indecisive.
All I know for sure is, Beneful is not the answer to my problems ^_^ |

| Quote DIGGERkristin: no i wouldnt eat beneful because im not a dog.. and i also wouldnt eat any of your high class Dog foods either. my dogs are healthy, happy and perfectly normal. dont worry, the corn gluten hasnt caused... |
I tried to feed my dogs that supposidly better. It was called Nutro max and was suppose to be all natural and contain no "by poducts". But my dogs would not eat it. So I switched to Beneful and they love it. Their coats have more of a shine and they are much heathier. I think that people sometimes get confused when it comes to dogs. I mean I know everyone loves their pets but you have to understand they are not humans. They are totally differant. Something that may seem uneatable to a human is actually good for a dog. So when it comes to something like this I would talk with you vet. have a good one |

I feed my pup Royal Canin Sensible choice mixed with 1/2 tub of caesar wet food in the morning, with lypoderm on top... and then @ 12 noon a small scoop of the royal canin kibble, then another small scoop at 3. THe food is picked up at 5pm. Since I have been feeding Beemer this way his coat is shinier, his skin is not so dry, and he even seems to be happier. Now if we could just nail the potty training as well.... |

Before I joined this website and was "eduacated" by members like Kayzhond, Anasazi, and FunnyBunny, I fed my dogs Iams. It's better than Purina, but still junk....Sierra's coat is a Blue, and the Iams was causing her hair to grow a muddy brown on the sides of her neck and shoulders. Hallie is a chocolate, and had the same problem. Iams is well known among Rottie breeders and showers to do this. I switched to Solid Gold, and it's made a huge difference. The "sideburns" are gone and the Blue and Chocolate coats have returned. All of my dogs are healthier all around, more active, and LOVE their food. I can't see why anyone would refuse, or WANT to refuse trying a premium Dog food. It makes such a difference! |

Yes, my puppy was being fed purina by the "breeder". As soon as I switched to royal canin (slowly switched), I noticed a huge difference. He is so soft and fluffy now |

Quote Kayzhond: Someone here is actually feeding their Dog Beneful. Sorry, Beneful by Purina is "junk" food.
The main ingredients are ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal. Do you know what... |
Ok maybe organic food is better, but actually my Dog Zel is terribly allergic to it, alteast the 5 different brands Ive tried. She gets extrememly sick. Even the vet agreed that she just cant handle it for some odd reason. Beneful is the only food weve been able to give her that her stomach can take so calling it crap is not really fair, its actually saved her from starving to death! I do agree that some organic food is for the most part better, but it sometimes isnt an option. We have tried so many foods, the better the food supposedly is for her the more shes allergic. And its not because its new, we tried a couple for over months each and she never got better. Poor thing, its really sad, a lab with a weak stomach. And she cant eat milk bones or any dairy either. Its like having a high maitenance child and sometimes people at like petsmart of Dog places we go dont even ask and give her milk bones, its kinda aggrevating. And everytime we get her board we have to bring her own food and put in all caps that she is no way allowed to have milk bones. |

And if you are wondering what her side effects were Im sure you do....bloody diarehea!!! eeek So please dont say Im cheap Im not, I would love nothing more than to feed my Dog the very best, trust me I spoil the crap out of her, and I feel horrible that I feed her "crap" But its letting her have a better quality life. I actually go to a holistic vet so hes been there helping me and eventually he had to agree. I know Im going on and on but I just want to stress that Im not a horrible person for feeding my Dog beneful! |

I have to say that I do feed a "super premium" Dog food. But I also realize that not everyone can afford it. There are decent alternatives out there.
Purina Pro-Plan is the same as Wal-Mart's Maxximum Nutrition (we used to feed kitties this with no problems)
Purina ONE is the best food you can buy from a grocery store. Actual meat, fewest by-products.
Nutro MAX (their cheapest formula) is a good food. Something I used to feed. I wasn't satisfied because I had to supplement.
There are other options... You can supplement with real meat/yogurt, veggies, etc.
I hope people will actually read this and take note. As for Iams... I honestly have to say it's not much better than plain old Purina... and you pay twice as much.

A few pages back someone wondered how a food could cause a Dog to be hyper. Any food that has "soft stuff" in it such as Kibble & Bits, Beneful or those hambgury looking ones are loaded with sugar & salt. Thats what they use to make them tasty.
You can learn a lot from OurPetFood.com or the Natura site (California Natural) where you can compare up to 4 brands side by side & click on each ingreediant to see what it does. |

I dont think your horrible for feeding beneful! Zena ate beneful her whole life and loved it, we could never get her to eat other foods. Kloe has food allergies to it and is on science diet large breed puppy. i know people dont like SD on this site, but we like it and it is the best quality of food that we can find in our area. its either SD or walmart food. price is not an issue and if i could find a place around here that sold better food then we would get it, but when you live in a town that has less than 200 people you dont get much choice lol. anyway, kloe does good on her food and i wont change her. |

Didnt you say youre in Nebraska now? There are several stores in the state that sell Innova and California natural.. If they sell those brands then Im sure they have other premium foods available as well..
Check out the store locater tab. MAybe one of these stores is in your neck of the woods.
http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=home-tab
Wanted to say something about bloody, runny stools.. If your Dog is expereincing this problem, and youre giving your Dog rawhide chewies, bully sticks, pig ears.. The chewies are probably the culprit.. My older westie had runny bloody stools whenever I gave him chewies.. Over thanksgiving, I rehomed a retired Ch showdog to my mother.. She was giving him bully sticks, he began having runny bloody stools.. IMO, they (chewies) are more harm than good.
Just like food and humans, some foods our system can handle some we can not.. Its the same with dogs.. its trail and error. |

I haven't visited this site in quite sometime, and couldn't believe that this post was still active. Nutrition is a big thing that makes everyone healthier all around. Every Dog is different and will flourish on one food where another Dog won't. You just have to find that food that works best for you and you canine or feline family. |
