I wanted to know your views on this, do you think it's a good idea to have clothes for your dogs? On another forum (not a dog or pet lover's forum) people were really against it. So my questions are 'how far is to far?', 'is it okay if only the dog is a hairless breed?', or 'is it only okay if you don't take it any father than the safety boots for dogs feet?'. My view, is that it's okay if it's like doggles and the safety boots, I don't see the harm in that there. But, actual clothes for dogs, that's a tuff issue for me, I see all of these clothes for dogs and than end up getting a sick feeling, because some of them are just going to far! But, other sometimes I can't help but love it and want it for my dog, although she'd never wear it and would rather bite me first, . So what are your views on dog clothes?

CelticGlory, Putting clothing on dogs is fine as long as it in no way "hurts" the dog. I wouldn't put a sweater on a full coated Pekinges or a sweat shirt on a Bulldog in the heat. I do however put dresses and shirts with pretty collars on my Chihuahua. People scoff at me all the time. The same people who spend tons of money on sports collectables, china dolls, baskets, candles, home decor and their cars. They sniker at me and tell me I'm crazy. I do it because it makes me happy and Emily doesn't mind. She of course can't tell me she likes it but she gets very excited when its time to get dressed. I live in the Midwest and sweaters and coats would be a must for my Chihuahua to go outside in the winter.

I know, I just feel bad when I see the dog models model in those clothes, they seem sad, well most of them. I probably wouldn't need them anyway, unless it was like doggles and the boots for the dogs feet. i wanted to get some costumes for the holidays. That will be the only time my dogs get dressed up and it would only be a nice color with a turkey on it or something of that nature. Because, I don't like really small breeds like chis, I have nothing against them.

The only clothe artical we bought for our pug was his green sweater thing. He was so little when we first got him and it was so cold, snowing we got him that, he hated it but it kept him warm when we went outside he grew so fast I had to cut the arms and slits in the side so it would fit him! He did look like a little rag doll! it was so cute!

Okay, I hate to see Chi's and any other small dog in a dress. Although I do find jackets, t-shirts, sweaters and stuff like that are cute. Some large dogs look nice around the holidays with bandanas or costumes for halloween are cute but any other time is sort of ugly. sometimes booties and sweaters are necessary for cold winters so that's not too big a deal.

Well, I'm guilty. My Poodles have LOTS of clothes! I haven't gone so far as dresses for them because I've never seen one I liked, but we do have t-shirts, tanks, sweaters, rain coats, bandanas, sunglasses and hats... They do LOVE all the extra attention they get when we go out and they're all dressed up!

I live in Oregon and even though the winters are not snowy and icy, they are wet and cold. My little chi will shiver so of course I put on sweaters and tshirts. When I take him for a walk I put on a yellow slicker for him if its misty out. Any short hair breed or a breed that is groomed like a mini poodle or a mini schnauzer is going to shiver if its cold out. Would you send your child out to shiver in the cold!! There are definitely cuter girl doggie clothes out there than boy doggie clothes, just like real children's clothing. I have never looked down on someone who dresses up their dog, it just another way to show how much they love them I can guarantee you that a neglected and starving dog is not going to have cute clothes on them I do believe that the boots are a little silly and dog glasses or goggles I have seen also, but more power to you, its their own cash!!!

Yea but the protective boots are to protect the feet from the hot sidewalks and broken bits of glass and sharp sticks while walking and snow, cant forget about snow! I live in Florida where we have small sharp sticks all over the sidewalks and people stupidly break beer botters or glass soda bottle and that is the only place to walk the poor dogs in try and walk around it where you still will walk in some. The doggles are to keep the sun or like a normal human would wear sunglasses, and it will keep other stuff out like flying bugs or dirty and other things. The first winter i was thinking about going for a Christmas hat, a big red nose, and a Christmas collar for my pup next year and taken some professional photos of my pup. I also into cosplay and wanted to get matching outfits for me and my pup *snickers*. He will be one of my many mascots!

If anyone wants to check it out my webpage address is: www.geocities.com/lilmissktty/christinesk9shirts.html I know it is long, but I really cant afford top set a real website yet plus Im not that computer savey yet, but Im learning. PLease let me know if you guys have any suggestions. In my opinion dogs look cute in clothing and outfits and besides if people dont like it they dont need to put their pets in them.

I put clothes on my dogs. I even make clothes for my dogs. My dogs MUST be dressed! They are genetically hairless and get cold very easily, especailly in the winter. In the summer I dress my dogs in a light weight suit to protect their delicate skin from sun damages. So for me dressing my dogs serves a purpose. I don't do the dresses or head bands or anyhthing like that, unless it's for a photo, then it comes right back off. Booties I do use. It's 114 degrees today...whould you walk around bare foot in heat like this? I wouldn't nor would I expect my dog to. For some dressing a dog is whats best for the dog, for others it's all personal prefrence. Does there oppinion of what your dog looks like really make a diffrence to you? It's your dog anyway, as long as it's not hurting the dog, then it's not hurting anyone else. I don't let other peoples oppinions fade my feelings, I have had to learn to deal with rude or hurtful remarks about my dogs for a long time. Everyone makes fun, laughs or calls them names like ugly and gross and a creature. But it just goes to show what type of character they are themselves. Just ignore nasty remarks, they are probably jelous of you or your dogs striking beauty anyway!!! Right!!!

Hehehe I think that dressing your dogs are cute. Little shirts, boots and a nice collar just makes me wanna scream and hug the adorable little puppy!! I am totally NOT against it! It's like dressing a baby. Especially in winter. My short-haired puppy, Chazzy, even shivers if I turn on the AC too high.

lilmissktty, I love those shirts they are so cute. Your mascots or should I say models? Are just so cute!

yeah, they are just my girls and now our boy is getting into it. I must say our middle child is the best. She is the one in most of the pictures. She has alot of the black dusting on her. As you can see she has pretty much grown out of the smalls. She is bulging out of the Aerosmith one.lol. Thanks for the compliment!

My dogs would never wear clothing!! EVER!! I have nothing against pet clothing and sometimes it is absolutely necessary. My groomer has Dachshunds and she dresses them quite often in the winter and of course Halloween they are all decked out.

I think that dressing dogs up is fine, especially if it's for protection of any sort. But I do think that dogs should be dressed responsibly ie. the dogs should not be uncomfortable and it shouldn't harm them. My friends have a Shih Tzu/Maltese. Recently we went for a walk with her, and it was cold and rainy. So she wore a little jumper, which she didn't mind. When people dress their dogs up to decorate them and to show off, I find that ok too, UNLESS the dog is being harmed! But, all in all, I think it's a matter of responsibility on the owner's part.
