I just picked up a sweet pug, he appears to be perfect, friendly and the most lovable puppy I ever held. You can tell that I am so in love with this little critter. Please reassure me that she is a good breeder though. The papers I got from the airport for the vet clearance I just noticed that were for a different breed. I just makes me a little scared that he didn't pass the vet exam. I made an appointment for the vet this week. I'm sure it's just a mix up in papers, I just would be heart broken if he was ill or had a serious problem. I'm not an expert but he seems perfect. Good poop and eats, sleeps, and plays fine. Just checking. Thanks

Did your puppy come with registration papers? I don't like the looks of Brenda's current nextdaypet.com ad where she lists a pug as "AKC Sassy" but later states she's ACA registered. She also has a Pomeranian available... I wonder if she has other breeds available, too? "Things that make you go HMMMM..." Hopefully your puppy checks out at the vet and continues to be absolutely wonderful for you. Please keep us posted and Congratulations!

The papers were for ACA. She said the the Pugs came from her friend who breeds and that she was taking care of them for her and making arrangement. I did notice that the photo of my pup was also the same as the photo of another pup she had for sale the next day. I really don't think that the photo was of my puppy that I got. The one it the picture seemed fatter but that doesn't matter much too me because I love him so much. At the time of the ad there was also a Bichion for sale too from her. Could she be a broker? Either way I did get a wonderful pup who appears to be healthy with the exception I did find one flea on him the next day. None since. Shipping went well and they were very caring at the airport. It was Continintal Airlines. I see that some people on here got scamed. I feel bad. I never gave it a second thought. I paid through Paypal. I heard that Western Union is a red flag for scammers. Any one else have simular concerns of mine? I just pray that he is healthy. He is almost too perfect. If he checks out to be fine I would recommend his remaining litter mates.

I did a search on google.com earlier ("brenda meadors" broker) and came up with this: http://malteseforum.com/indexer/malteseonly-forum-2/ I joined the forum to see what it was all about, but the article is no longer available. Judging from the fact that we now know she's had Pugs, Poms, Bichons and presumably Maltese for sale as well, I would go so far as to assume that she is either a broker or possibly, a puppymill. You'll often see people advertising puppies "for friends" Online. In fact, I sent a deposit via Western Union for someone's friend's puppy and was scammed a couple years ago. You're lucky that you got a seemingly healthy pup and weren't told lie after lie as I was, with little to no hope of ever getting your money back or a puppy without a lot of stress.

It's so hard to believe that so many people have been taken advantage of. Sorry that happened to you. Yes I was really lucky and probably should have researched it better. My little Pug seems almost potty trained and goes everytime I take him out. I don't know what to really make of it. For me it worked out great so far. I also did a search on Brenda through google and came up with a article about a bad tornado and how someone returned a little pup back to her after the storm and how she was so happy. She seemed to be so nice. Maybe she just finds good deals on them and resells them? Though I am by far not a pro, this puppy is very social and very well adjusted. He met a Rot, Cat and went to the races with no fear at all. He has already me over 50 different people and is happy to see anyone new. I am very lucky how ever he came to be!

Be careful taking your pup with you to meet so many new friends. You don't want to overwhelm him or worse, cause him to catch something. Has he had all of his vaccinations yet? You'll want to take it easy if he hasn't, and even if he has I'd still play it a little closer to home for a while longer since he's so new.

"If he checks out to be fine I would recommend his remaining litter mates." If you need us to reassure you that your breeder is a good breeder than please don't recommend her to others! I think in your heart of hearts you know she's not. You may have gotten lucky, the people you refer her to may not be so lucky. There are to many things that don't smell right to me here. I can't believe the airline allowed a dog who's paperwork didn't match the breed to be sent. Thats pretty sad. What breed did they say he was? I can see if they let a shih tzu pass for a Llasa but a Pug is a Pug. I hope your puppy checks out fine too. Oh and please don't think your puppy is house trained they don't normally start having accidents for a couple of weeks when they are a little older and more comfortable in their home. I don't want you to be disapointed later or think that he's being bad then because "he knew better before". It will take about three months on average to house train a dog some smaller breeds can take up to six months. Good luck with your new bundle of love.

"I can't believe the airline allowed a Dog who's paperwork didn't match the breed to be sent." I honestly don't think that most care! I ship puppies often and all the person behind the counter ever does is take the health cert. and stuff it (along with the rest of the information) into the little baggie stuck on top of the crate. It's not uncommon for an airline employee to know little more than that most dogs have four legs. I've also recieved dogs in ways that proved to me how some airline employees don't even care to make sure the dog is in a suitable kennel! On one occassion, I picked up a dog I'd purchased to rescue who was flown to me by his "breeder" in a too-small crate with almost no bedding inside. Another time, I recieved two dogs who were shipped in a kennel together that was so big it was like their own condo. It turned out that the shipper had decided to purchase a kennel at the airline right before the flight and the employee would not let her buy the next size smaller. Funny how the airlines say they "won't" ship if the kennel is too small... but if it's too big they will and they don't have any problem charging you extra for the space!

I guess I've never shipped a dog. Mine always travel in their Sherpa bags under my seat with me. They always make me take my dog out and show him to them. They check his paperwork before I can put him back in. I guess I thought they did that with all dogs.

Well, unfortunately, I don't think you'll ever have experts looking at your dog at the airport to be sure it is what the paperwork says it is. As someone pointed out earlier, many people can't even tell a Lhasa from a Shih Tzu. Who's to say what a Maltipoo looks like? Even when I've shipped pups back with their owners in the cabin, the papers weren't checked beyond to be sure that they were there. The only inspection I've seen other than that by an airline employee was a quick look and/or sweep inside the kennel to check for any "surprises."

the vet will check over your pup and make sure all is ok. if for some reason something doesnt check out right you should immediately contact the breeder.

Well after some reasearch, I have found the original breeder of my puppy. She is a hobby breeder of Pugs. I had found the Original ad in the paper linked through phone numbers. The pugs sold for 250.00. I purchased my baby for 675.00 plus shipping. Yes I was lucky this time but for all you looking for new pups take my advice and really get educated about what and who you are buying from. So there are "brokers" on here that sell for a friend for a profit. Now at least I have all the information where my little bundle came from if I ever need to contact the original owner.

So I suppose the title of this thread should read: Brenda Meadors - BROKER! It's just good to know that so far, your puppy from her is healthy and you are in touch with the actual breeder.

There are some breeders who won't sell to the general public because they don't want to hassle with it. There's usually a middle-man in every type of business. There are a lot of different types of brokers out there. Some deal in volume and some do it as a hobby because they love puppies. The ones who do it as a hobby usually take very good care of the puppies and start them on socialization and potty training before they go to their new homes. Also, they're usually very healthy and happy puppies. Brokers who sell to pet stores, etc will buy any and every puppy they can find and the puppies usually have minor health issues which the new owner is left to deal with. Thankfully, you rec'd a puppy from someone who cared a great deal for it.

lol Anasazi "There are some breeders who won't sell to the general public because they don't want to hassle with it." Yup, friends and neighbors. You know. Breeders like Billybob... Billiejoe... Bill-e-sue... Billijean... Them folks is needin' to spend their time doing much more important things in the sticks other'n to be frettin' 'bout where their puppies are goin's to! Who has time for that?
6/7/2005 8:25:31 PM

6/7/2005 8:48:46 PM
Did I uh, hear somebody say greasy lightenin'?! Whooo-eeee! I'da post more 'bout my puppys and all but my dang port-a-pot just done overflow'd. It sure is makin' one horridable stench and the dogs is playin' in it. Anyway that reminds me I better get on the phone to my broker rightly now, too. The one who goes to the breeders kennel and checks things out, buys the puppies, brings them in to their home - one or two litters at a time, gets them used to all the sounds of everyday life, gets down on the floor several times a day to play, spoils them rotten, loves the stuffin' out of 'em, starts them on potty training and socialization, takes them to the vet for a thourough exam, puts them online and sends them happy and healthy to their new, absolutely thrilled families.

And you're REALLY gonna get a laugh out of THIS............ I actually see myself as somewhat of a rescuer. I rescue these puppies from being put on a puppy wagon and ending up in some God-forsaken pet shop somewhere. I give them a place to feel safe. A place where they have plenty of room to run and play. Yes, this is also the way I make my car payment but most of the money I make, goes right back in to my puppies. I buy nice soft baby blankets, beds, toys and Science Diet. I take them to the vet and get them whatever medical attention they may need, etc....... I love what I do and I love my puppies and my customers. You'll never convince me that it's wrong, just like I'll never convince you that it's okay. I hope we can just agree to disagree and not do too much bashing...... Some people appreciate the middleman who does all the leg work for them.......
