most of my friends and family prefer males, including myself. i think your veterinarian will say the same!!! males are a bit harder to housebreak, however, it is worth the extra effort!!! |

I think a female is more easier to train. Males are to dominant. |

it all depends on the Dog & how much experience & knowledge the owner has.
there is no way to generalize by gender
there are loads of females with dominence issues - it is not just a male problem
volunteering at you local shelter will give you some experience with dogs. please consider doing it if you are old enough |

I agree with Sue. You can not judge dogs on sex. Each Dog has its own personality.
It is my opinion that much of the differences you see in dogs has as much to do with how humans relate to them as does their sex.

I agree that each Dog is different and males vs. females dont really compare in a behavior issue way...but as far as just "parts" I really like rubbing my girls bellies without having that "extra" stuff there. Haa. And girls are prettier. Juuuust kidding! hehe
I used to only love males until I got my girls. |

It is personal preference, and no one can tell some one else what they prefer. Some families like males some like females.
I STRONGLY prefer females. There are very few boy dogs that I like. Right off the bat, I physically don't like the equipment on boy dogs (boy parts) gross me out.
I don't like unneutered males that mark and hump on everything. I don't like that hormonal testosterone male Dog smell. I think they smell more 'doggy' than girl dogs.
They say 'boys will be boys' for a reason. In any breed I have had Puppies the males are bigger, stronger, and more dominant.
I went to a large 'Boxer meet up' in Chicago last year. The girl dogs were quiet, reserved and stuck close to their families. The boy dogs were playing in the middle with each other for HOURS, until they were all just 100% exhausted.
Not accusing anyone on this thread, I know some families/breeders do like males more, however I know a lot of breeders that push males on families as being 'better pets' because they don't want to be stuck with them. You can always keep another female in your breeding program, but how many related males do you need?
I guess all any breeder can do though is be honest and tell what you have noticed in your breed. |

I have two cockers. One male one female. My male is mischivious and at times a bit too active but he listens and is very willing to please while on the other hand my female does things on her own terms in her own way. Both are pretty well mannered pooches, but depending on your family situation I would say that in my breed of Dog Males are slightly more trainable. |

STRANGE statements to make about male dogs coming from a breeder. Gee my boys (boy parts) don't gross me out, but even if they did, I wouldn't feel the need to broadcast it here. Some things are just better left unsaid.
To the OP, as others have alluded to, you can't generalize about the sexes too much. I find my male and female have different strengths and weaknesses, yet they are both affectionate and smart in their own way. |
