Edited by Gbat1stop I could not post the link but I did copy the article to be posted for you.
"April 23 2008 - South Korean customs officials said Monday that the world's first seven cloned sniffer dogs have started their training in preparation for their duty this year. The seven cloned Puppies. called simply as Toppy (referring to Tomorrow's Puppy) were born in late 2007 to three surrogate mothers under a state-funded project.
The South Korea customs representative Lee Ho told the AFP that the Toppies have already passed the first round of tests for genetic qualities and behavioral patterns.
"They will report for duty in June after completing a second round of training," he added.
The $300-million project was carried out by Lee Byung-Chun, who played a major role in the world's first successful Dog cloning, which was made by creating a duplicate of a 3 year-old Afghan Hound.
To clone the Toppies successfully, Lee reportedly used the nuclei of somatic cells from a sniffer Golden Retriever dog.
Project manager Lim Jae-Yong said that training the Puppies of a skilled sniffer Dog is more easier compared to training ordinary canines.
"The project was successful. This is the first time that cloned dogs have been used as sniffer dogs," he added.
Lee was a former colleague of the disgraced cloning scientist Hwang Woo-Suk, who was once hailed as a national hero. He left Woo-Suk after being indicted for fraud, ethical breaches, embezzlement and other charges in 2006, while Lee led his own research team. Hwang claims that he created the first human stem cells through his cloning efforts, but was ruled in January 2007 to be fake."
So, what do you think of Dog cloning? I guess the breeders don't make enough. ha ha. So are they all the exact same?

That is exactly what I was thinking as I read this! $300 million could have gone a long way to making some changes in this world. |

the cloning of dogs is not to produce "Puppies FOR SALE"!!! it is not related in any way to money needed to neuter dogs. the money is being much better spent for medical research pertaining to the cure of disease worldwide!!! |
