Our 8 year old Pomeranian Chihuahua has gotten progressively worse with the barking over the years. She used to be an occasional bark at the strangers Dog but now she barks when she goes into the yard at nothing as well as at the slightest sound, movement etc. We have been considering one of those collars that spray when the Dog barks, Has any one used one? Do they work? I really would hate to use a shock collar on her, she is about 10 lbs. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. |

I have the same issues, but my Pom has always been a barker. I use the quiet command in the house but now outside I have a little spray bottle I threaten with and it seems to be working. I would try the citronella collar not the shock.
They also have something you can hang out in the yard to deter barking...Walmart is now carrying all these things, the collars and such. Let me know what you tried and how it works if you're not a one post wonder. |

Hopefully we will be here more often now that we have signed on, I am going to go with the citronella kind I think as she (sugar)gets all the other dogs riled up and barking at nothing. It makes us not want to let her out with everyone else and yet she wants to go out with them. |

Oh I hear you. I have not taken the jump to spend the money just yet. I started squirting mine in the face and say quiet and now unless were out and confronted by other dogs just holding it out at him seems to STIFLE his butt but he still gets some little whimper talks in. |

they just think they are so BIG! Mine walks right out into the street if I am not careful and barks at the neighbor's cars when they come home. (thankfully we live on a cul de sac) |

Uh-huh we have a 6 foot fence and he does the same and now he has gotten the yorkie to start looking through the fence cracks with him to investigate. They are bossy and want to know what's up at all times. |

I will never resort to using the shock collars...Poms are especially prone to collapsed trachea issues and reverse sneezing nervousness and I think the shock collars would ZAP their little spirit not to mention their throats |

There is also another bark collar that makes a high pitched nosie when the Dog barks, they work well, the spray collars can work, but some smart dogs firgure out if they bark just enough they can emtey out the spray and keep barking as they please, when your around you can also try putting pennys in a tin can and shaking it loud it that works well when you are they to supervise, im glad you stay away from shocks, I hate shock collars the only time i ever reccomend them is in serious cases of prey drive, when the dogs life becomes at risk like chasing cars, shocks hurt and can cause physical and mental damage to a dog, good luck with the barking |

I have never heard of collars that spray something at the Dog when they do something wrong but I do not think that shocking your Dog would be necessary. |

My guess is her hearing or site is going bad. Have you had them checked by the vet? Stop letting her out in the yard alone. She is telling you she's scarred and you should have her on a lead and be there with her. IF she starts to bark you and tug the lead and shhh her. |

I was thinking the same thing. If a Dog is barking for no reason it may be because the Dog cannot hear itself barking. Has the Dog shown any other symptoms of anything unusual? Does it tend to watch you a lot and try to keep you in sight all the time? |
