listen,
i had a Dog some women gave me.i should have known.but he had parvo.we caught it intime.but hes thrown up all over my house.my backyard.pee'd everywhere in my backyard.we gave him up 3 weeks ago to the spca to be vaxed(vaccenaded)sorry for spelling.and to be put up for adoption.hes better and in a big country home.but heres the thing im now out of haveing a buddy.i want a little Boxer puppy for my birthday this comein june 14th.i understand i need to bleach everything.we did it once already, tommarow im going to re bleach my house and yard.i just need a couple questions i need answared that i cant find.
first)WHAT kind of bleach do i use for my colored clothing.my carpets, and couches these are dark colored things and my mom would murder me if i bleached her colors.so what specific bleach name do i use to save my colors?
Second)If my 10 week old puppy goes right to the vet for all its first pup and parvo shots is this ok?i plan on keeping her in the house for about 2 maybe 3 months so i can keep updateing her shots,i rather puppy pad an crate train instead of her be sick outside. but does this lessin her risk of getting infected?i heard something about yards takeing about 5 er so months longer.an the indoors is about a month.
my last question is,should i only have her drink pedalyte for a few months to keep her hydrated and feed her stage 1 babyfoods for about a month or 2 then start putting in some kibble?
please help me!
also i almost forgot the Dog who had parvo was in my mom and my dads car..anything specific to clean the floors and leather?Send me and email thankyou so much all the help will make me very happy.

Please for the love of God do NOT BRING ANOTHER PUPPY IN TO YOUR HOUSE. At least not a young one-- that is incredibly selfish to put another puppy at risk like that.

If you insist on getting another puppy, make sure it is one vaccinated early with Neopar, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND bringing in an older puppy that has already had ALL it's vaccinations before it enters your house.

Or purchase from a breeder willing to keep the puppy of your choice until it has had all of it's vaccinations, and ask them to also work on potty training. Obviously you will need to compensate them, because most will not keep a puppy, feed it and vaccinate it for free.

the main thing is to disenfect your home and surroundings. this can be done by going to edited and ordering ken o lan. you can mix according to the directions and put in a pump sprayer, you can spray furniture, carpets, yard, cars, walls, shoes, clothing, etc. leave NOTHING unsprayed. your puppy will need at least 1 neopar vaccine and 2 5 way vaccines before comming to your home.

i am certainly NOT in agreeance with your undertaking as it sounds to me that since you just turned in a Dog to a shelter, and have every intention on replacing it, that your dogs are easily thrown away. with this said, i know what i say will not change your mind. i would rather try and help protect the new puppy than to have it fall victim to parvo!!!!

Im wondering exactly why you gave the Dog over to the spca, was it the expence of the parvo?

Anyway, one point people are not mentioning is that no amount of vaccines are going to give you a 100% protection and too many can actually blow the immune system, there is the new strain of Parvo that no vaccine even touches.

If you do get another puppy which i dont suggest you do, make sure it does have vaccinations, at least 4 and get a couple of bottles of parvaid to have on hand incase the Dog becomes ill as it will increase survival odds.
the product mentioned above and parovlan also are both good products, lemon quat is about the better smelling of them all and its what places like petsmart use.

dane, parvolans name has now been changed to ken o lan. the vaccines for the new strain of parvo are neopar and proguard. i have discussed this with the veterinarians at auburn university and also the vet on staff at columbus. they agree that the vaccines of preference are the ones i mentioned.

Dogs are not disposable creatures. You saved a Dog from Parvo then turn him into the SPCA and now want another dog? What is this a revolving door?

Oh no no no,
I gave my Dog to the Spca because He was far enough sick,it wasnt my choice to bring him to the spca.i loved that Dog with everything. But my parents said he wasnt well enough to be here stuck here,i know it was dumb in the first place to not get a well healthy dog.i understand im dumb for that.
but at that time we didnt have enough to pay for everything he needed. But listen im happy it turned out in such a way.He is adopted and happy in a big country home with acres to run on.he is updated on everything.but listen.
i have job.i started last Monday.and my mom has a job now.so i have the money for shots, vaccines, all the things you informing me of.beds,toys,everything.i know you guys think im dumb, but at least im not just bringing this Dog home with out trying to clean.it doesnt matter.
you guys are right,i save a Dog from parvo now i just wanna put a baby at risk.since i turn 18 this june.ima just find a cute 2 bedroom apartment that will allow me to have a pup.
altho ima steal bleach the house and such.for any reason that may come up.

I think it would be a really good idea for you to wait until you have matured a lot so you can make better decisions about your life.

you need to really educate yourself about dogs before getting one.

parvo can live up to 2 years on any surface so you can be dragging it around on your shoes - & spreading it to other Puppies.

most vets say wait at least 6 months before bringing another puppy into a home that has had parvo.

you say the Dog was too sick to live at your house & that's why it went to the SPCA. I can assure you that Dog was not adopted out. dogs don't get well overnite from parvo & no shelter is going to risk all their Puppies getting it. most also don't have the $$ to treat it either

at least you are admitting you are being selfish.a new puppy needs alot of everything, not the least which is making sure of good health, love attention, and training.this puppy should ABSOLUTELY NOT be brought into an evironment that is a danger to it.no matter how badly you want this pup make sure you are settled before you get a puppy.

you will still need to follow the disenfection and vaccinating procedures stated earlier in the posts...new apartment or not...why dont you go gto google and do some reading about parvo virus. maybe you will get a better understanding of just how serious this is and how long it will lay dormant hiding its ugly face!!!

i did.i understand how messed up this virus is.i use to help at the shelter in san jose.and ive seen 3 dogs dead on arrival.including watching 2 others die while 2 doctors were tyring to save em.just because of parvo.its completly messed up.i know.
and its ok now.found a good thing.
first got a nice apartment.got a new bed,new clothes, all because my brother wired me a good amount of money to help me move.then just kicking back on my computer my brother called me and told me he found a German Shepherd a year an half old.updated on shots, parvo, vaccs, everything.healthy as can be.lisenced and chipped.
from my local spca.i pick him up tommarow.im really excited.the lady from the spca already knows my situation.she said he will be fine because hes been updated since 9 weeks old.she has proof of shots and dates and such.so everythings fine.
