My 12 year old maltese/Poodle has bowel incontenence and is now going all over the house, the crate and bears down constantly and sometimes nothing comes out. I have had ultra sound, xray and blood work. The red blood cells came back abnormal shape and he is anemic, which can mean cancer but is inconclusive. Don't know what to do? |

IF there are not meds that can ease his desire to strain then I agree with Sue. |

The vet says that it is possible cancer and that it has been slowly going on for a while but he is showing no signs of pain just straining when reliving himself |

Can't you do anything to cure it? If not then I am going to have to go with sue on this one. |

if hes straining to poop I would think the vet would have put him on more fiber or stool softners, just with people for once, dogs systems slow down and dont work well with age. as far as pooping all over the house, only let him have a small area to call his own when you cant watch him. Id rather clean up poop than pee any day. |

What food are you feeding? Get a second opinion. Sometimes homeopathics and herbs can work wonders. Seek out a vet in this area if the conventional vets offer no hope for you. Boswer |

so far, we have heard possible and inconclusive. something is missing here. what is it?? since it is possible cancer and inclusive tests...its just as possible that is not cancer. go to another vet that can finally tell you exactly what is wrong with your dog. you need a diagnosis and a prognosis. |
