Hello Everyone, I was hoping to get your thoughts about my puggle Midge, She is 5 months old and is a wild animal. She bites, barks, pees, and won't come when she is called. She want's so much attention that if you look away for a moment she barks and barks until you look at her. We don't leave to go anywhere because she doesn't like to be left alone. I didn't want to get a Dog to revolve my entire life around her but I am now. She bites my boyfriend and myself all the time and we can't get her to stop, she has ruined every pair of shoes i own, and she pees all over the place. She pees on us. we are doing everything by the book as far as training goes and it is not working. She does not respect us at all. We have gone to the point of getting her calming treats. (we got them from petco, they are safe) they dont even work but i just need to some thoughts on what to do, a new training method, anything will help! thanks |

You need help and fast. While you are at petco or where ever, sign up for some obedience classes like NOW.
Boxer, Puggle what ever. I ALWAYS recommend puppy classes and then a basic obedience class or more.
The more time you put in to your puppy now, the more you will enjoy it as a well behaved adult.
You are at a crucial point, you NEED to teach this puppy how to behave and manners, if you don't it will never learn.
Be consistent, firm, and you are the boss of the puppy, it is NOT the boss of you. You need to teach them what the rules are, and if they don't follow, I put them in time out-- a crate.
I know some say not to use it as punishment, but I don't think of it as punishment, I think of it like sending a kid to their room. That works for me, but maybe others have better advice.
CLASSES! |

with a mixed breed you never know what you will get. beagles are very active & need lots of exercise as it sounds like yours does. at least 2 brisk 1/2 hour walks every day.
google NILIF for some immediate help in becoming the leader or alpha dog.
yes, I agree classes are in order. just make sure it is someone reputable. go watch a couple classes to see how the trainer relates to the dogs & the owners.
are you using a crate at all? that will help a lot - do some research on crate training |

I have a crate and she doesn't go to the bathroom in it at all. she doesn't sleep in it during the night, she sleeps with us. She is in it during the day from 8:00 till 4:00 and i come home for lunch to take her to the bathroom but she only gets about 10 minutes out of the cage which she gets a lot of exercise in that time. She catches on when we get ready to leave and she hides under the bed. She is petrified of the crate. but under no circumstances is she ever left out of the cage unless it is overnight with us but we never leave her alone. I am enrolling in puppy classes as soon as possible. Thanks for all your help. Any advice on what I can do in the mean time. Should i put her in the crate overnight? she will go crazy. |

if the sleeping with you is working out try and leave it that way.as far as being in the crate try and work up to longer periods of time, little 10-15 min at time and then work up to it.leave the cage door open so she can come and go .don't trick her into going into the crate.give her a treat when she does good with the crate and praise, praise, praise when she does good with the crate.good luck |
