Can you tell me how old a male pug should be before you get him fixed? What are the pros and cons of fixing a male pug? Thanks Bert : |

The rule of thumb is between 6 and 8 months of age. That way he will not be as prone to testicular cancer. The mnain thing to watch is his diet. A fat Dog is an unhealthy dog. You should be able to feel his ribs with a thin cover of fat. He should have a "tuck up" in front of his back legs when you look at him from the side. Neutering is good for the Dog if you don't plan on going through the process of being a responsible breeder. It also will cut down on marking behavior. Thanks for being a responsible pet owner!! |

hmmm must be an area difference. the common age in FL & the NE is 5 -6 mos
neutering the males also prevents anal tumors & prostate problems. |

Assuming he'll be done with his vaccines, I'd suggest waiting no longer than 5-6 months. That's also the common age here.
We waited until right at about 7 months to neuter our male Pug, and we shouldn't have waited because he started marking in the house right at that age (different than housetraining issues). |
