Someone said it looks like an austrailian shepherd, but the hair isn't long enough. His name is Cooper by the way.

Cooper is pretty cute. Those are some pretty stout legs on him. I can't tell you what he is but I almost want to say he has some Rotti in him.

He is indeed very cute. I"m guessing he's a mix of more than a couple of breeds because I can't really pick out anything specific. It is difficult to tell in the pic, how big is he?

oh he is cute. I would say he's mixed with a beagle..because of the markings on his legs. how old is he in the picture?

thanks for the compliments. he is a little puppy, not sure on the exact age. im guessing right now but i think his head reaches either 7 or 8 inches (ill get exact measurements later today). I just got him last week at Petsmart so I'm still pretty new at all this. Thanks for the quick replies.

Here are some pictures I took this afternoon. You may notice some hair thinning towards the rear of the dog. We are taking him to the vet tomorrow to see what the cause of it is. Our black lab had the same kind of deal but turned out to be just a skin infection that is now healed due to some pills we got. Oh, and based on several failed attempts to measure Cooper, he appears to be around a foot tall. He's a hyper little pup during the day time.

Ive heard they can do DNA testing for dogs now, im not sure what the cost is or how it works or anything but if you really wanna know that badly I believe you can send a hair sample in and there suppose to be able to tell you exactly what breeds your Dog is, I was thinking about doing it for my shepherd mix to see what shes mixed with I saw a kit online for it (forgot where) But i think your vet might be able to help you out with more information on the DNA so good luck There also is a good book about finding out what your mix is by observing there temperament how they play ect.. but its still a bit of a guessing game but it shouldn't matter as long as you love the little one good luck with your new pup!!!

Wow, unless my puppy could talk, drive a car or land a space shuttle, I'm not getting a DNA test on a dog. People at the DNA lab will be like, "When are we getting the DNA results from the triple murder scene? Oh wait, we have to get the results from this puppy first." I guess cuz he's a puppy he bites constantly, he loves to play fairly rough, and im doing the best i can to house train him. he's gotten to where after he "eliminates" and we make eye contact he'll try to run away from me. hopefully, before long he'll start running towards the door BEFORE he goes, and not after. He is about 10-12 weeks old now...anybody know about how old dogs get before they develope the brain capacity to be house trained? what i've been doing is after he pees on the floor ill stick his nose in it spank him a couple times and say "NO". Then I'll put him outside and when he pees outside i'll give him a treat. Any advice would be great.

DON'T rub his nose in it and don't spank him.most of the time it's not his fault that he has had an accident it's yours.having the brain capacity is not what your looking for .YOU have to have the brain capacity to constantly be training him, taking him out, watching for clues as to when he might be ready to go.take him out every 1/2 hr or so until he gets the idea.about 1 hr after he eats.try and take him to the same place every time.giving him a treat every time he goes out and goes potty is ok to start but try and move away from that.

You stick his nose in it say no and spank him a few times That is not good. Look in the archives here for the correct way to potty train..there is plenty of info if you take time to find it.

I think your exaggerating a wee bit on the DNA testing. I'm not sure if breed DNA testing is accurate but I think they have their own research lab facility its not like all DNA testing is done in one lab. Crime labs will usually have their own resources.

As for the spanking comment you need to put yourself in the pups position. If you were unable to hold your urine for a long period of time and the person caring for you controls the door to the bathroom is it your fault if u have a accident or is it the person whose in control? Spanking a Dog for something that you are in control of will send mixed signals to your dog. Instead of learning he will fear you. What you need to do is crate train him. Keep him in the crate when u arent watching him and let him out every 30 min. Good luck!
