We have two 2 year old mini dachshunds, a male and a female. We are getting a new puppy, female and I was wondering if there was any advice on the best way to introducing them all together. He is timid and protective of his sister, and she is out going and can be jealous. Thank you

I don't understand how he can be both timid & protective of her. that would seem to translate to fear biter
I would not be adding a 3rd Dog to the mix |

i would introduce your new puppy alone to him first. and then repeat the same with her. observe how each Dachshund acepts the puppy. if all goes well, then allow the puppy in the room alone with the male for about an hour or so, then allow the female to enter also. hopefully all will go great and it is a good possibility, however, never ever leave them unattended. you will need to monitor every session for awhile and be sure to crate the puppy in a separate room with the door closed while you are not present or not home until you are 100% positive that all will be fine together. i have friends who have several mini dachshunds all as one big happy family. they certainly did not get them all the same day . you can make this work out fine. good luck!! let us know!! |

Thank you, that sounds like a plan. They won't be left together alone for quite awhile, until she gets bigger and holds her own. I don't want her to get hurt playing. Thanks again. |

He didn't ask if you thought he should be adding a 3rd dog.
As to the introduction, you got good advice. Be sure to only have them together when you are supervising, until they are totally comfortable with each other. And the puppy gets bigger.
Good luck! |

i dont remember anyone asking if you should or could get a third Dog either. keep in mind, this is a poster who is a regular on this site, which IS next day pets. even so, she writes in another post that a reputable breeder does not sell online. is this not a double standard?? why is she here if this is her belief? what difference does it make where a breeder chooses to run their ad?? with this said, have you gotten your new puppy yet and if so, how is it going?? let us know!! |
