Does anyone have any ideas of some fiber rich food I can give my dog? He has quite a sensitive belly and he's on a sensitive system food that he really likes. I was wondering if I could give him some benefiber in his food? Have you ever done that before?? If not could you give me some ideas???? I really don't want to take him back to the vet...I think I have paid their salary for the past year!~!!! |

if you give carrots then make sure they are cut into small circles as they are not digested and can cause blockage if swallowed whole.
Why do you feel the Dog needs fiber? Is there corn and other grains in his kibble?
pumkin is the most commonly used fiber for animals 1 table spoon per 10lbs is the basic use. |

in another post i mentioned that i give my pup peanut butter mixed with chopped up carrots in her kong and she loves it,the pieces are cut very small and she really seems to love it.is this a good source?she seems to be thriving on it and i think it is a better treat for her than a Dog biscuit. |

I have heard that you can't give a Dog fresh vegatables... Something about thier digestive track won't digest it, it will just "send it through" Any truth to this? |

Its not that you cant, is that they dont have a system that has a need for it, they can not break them down which is why whole carrots can be dangerous, just as with many other products we give our dogs.

nd, so if they are chopped small enough to mix with the peanut butter is that ok? like i said she seems to be doing great with it but i don't want to hurt her in any way. |

i dont know how large your Dog is but just as long as they are not circular and are not any bigger than a dime should be quite ok.
Ive had dogs pass some pretty weird stuff so its just something to keep in mind |

she is about 22-23lbs ,since she has gone raw i've tried to give her only those types of things.and the pieces are circular than quartered. |

i would puree the carrot instead of chopping it up. Pureed vegetable is more digetable for dogs.
small amounts of peanut/carrot is fine..as long as this is not your dog's only source of food. |

yeah, i'm the one who was asking all of the questions before about what to eat , when to start etc.she seems to be thriving on it.tons of more energy it seems, at first it was a little difficult time wise, and she was a little fussy but now she seems to be doing great.thanks |

i will try pureeing the carrots and mix with the peanut butter,it does seem more logical than leaving in chunks.no it is not her only source of food .i just wanted to try and get away from the commercial biscuits, treats etc. |

I like freeze dried chicken breast or organs you can find at walmart and feed stores, great treats and not as messy.
I personally dont think that no matter how fine the veggies are ground, it serves no purpose, after all if its baby food how are you really going to tell that any was absorbed? considering that they lack the capabilites to digest and break down the cell wall, I would really like any facts that can prove me wrong if you have them Em, all about keeping an open mind.
Not saying its going to hurt the Dog to do the puree just objecting as always to it having any benifit for the dog |

ok so if i'm already giving her these things as her regular food is there anything i can give as a treat to make it seem "special" for her? |

hum, you know I really cant think of anything off hand, freeze dried organs are my treats, but look around for organic or holistic pet treats and maybe you can find something. |

there are no facts..just observations. I don't feed my Dog pureed veggies anymore i was just answering the op's question. Some do feed veggies and i would suggest pureeing it rather than giving a Dog a whole/pieces of carrot to chew.

or choke on them. shredding carrots in the food processor is a good way of solving the problem too. |

I hope you understand I was being sincere since it seems to be a common thing that comes up when Im talking to people, was beginning to think I was missing something rather than it was just humanizing dogs and cats.
