We have had our 1 year old miniature pinscher for about two weeks now. He does not potty in our house unless we are not home, so we keep him in the bathroom behind a doggie gate while we are gone. We are still struggling with getting him on a schedule of pottying outside, though. The first few days we had him he went potty in our backyard with little problem, but lately it seems he is too interested in the other dogs that live behind us to focus on going potty. Whenever I take him on a walk around the neighborhood, he always pees. Of course, I do not always have time to take him on a walk around the neighborhood and wish he would potty in the backyard. He doesn't seem to be on a schedule for pooping either. In fact, today it has been over 24 hours since he went poop! How long can he hold it before I should worry? Any suggestions about how to get him to potty in the backyard especially when we don't have time for a walk or it is too nasty outside for one? |

Potty training takes Alot of time and patience, my best suggestion is to bring him out to the back yard and keep him on a short leash and stand in one spot the same spot everytime tell him to "go potty" or some other cue and wait and wait and wait if he dosnet go bring him back to his puppy proff room, at some point repeating this over and over he will eventually go in that spot standing on a short leash makes it hard for the puppy to get too distracted (although neighbors dogs are VERY distracting) Once he dose go for you Reward him like crazy lots of praise and a treat or a peice of his food would be a great idea, then when its time to come inside let him have from free time to run around the house play with some toys supervised of course, keep repeating over and over and he should get the idea, it helps if you can kinda predict when he has to go after running around plaing a game shortly after eatting or drinking or when he wakes up are normel times for a puppy to pee, Good luck |
