I originally considered breeding my female dogs (Chihuahua and dashchund)but after I got them 2.5 yrs ago I started my research and realized not only how much work it would be but how wrong it would be. I still don't have them spayed because of the cost but they never leave the yard and when they are in heat I watch them outside. Anyways, they go into their heat cycles at the same time. My question is, why do they stand for each other...and why do they actually try and mate with each other. They only do this with each other, they ignore my other female dog. |

it is normal for them to behave this way and things will go back to normal once the main part of the heat is over.
There are low cost spay programs, google low cost spay neuter and your area and you should find something. |

Well, I searched and searched! There is absolutely nothing even hours away from me that offer low cost spays. My vet will give me 10% off if I bring them in at the same time, which is awesome but the cost of living keeps going up!! I was just watching them today and every 5 minutes they were after each other, they do this everytime, its like they forget the other one is a girl, then they switch. |

i am not trying to be rude, however, yes the cost of living does continue to go up and will continue to. i cannot say that i agree with this being an excuse for not caring for your animals properly. if you cannot afford them, there are many options. they really need to be spayed and if they had been we wouldnt be discussing this right now. if you cannot afford what they desperately need, there are many no kill shelters of whom may help you.

Are you trying hard enough? I'm sorry I find it hard to believe you have found nothing. I know there is even a vouture system through a website where you take it to a vet. Have you searched through the humane society of the united states? |

If you would like to see if I can help you may email me or post a general location such as county and state, and I can see what I can find. You indeed may have to drive a couple of hours but for a small female dog, its normally around $60.
You can also if your vets willing make small payments until the amount it paid up to have them spayed then. Local rescues will also normally help you get them spayed, I would but Im kinda in the pits right now, but maybe in a couple of weeks I can help out. |

I can afford my animals just fine. They are fed well, have everything they need, including very regular vet care, I am not going to surrender my dogs because I cannot afford to get them spayed. At the time I got them it wasn't thought of. And around here, not being able to afford something can be used as an excuse, and if you find it hard to believe I could not find something be my guest, Southern, Alberta, Canada. To spay both of them it will cost about $300 total, which doesn't seem like a lot but it is when you live in a Rig Town and when Spring Breakup occurs no one has money but the costs keep rising. I live in a one level 1200 sq ft home and my heat and electricity last month was $1400 plus an $1100 mortgage, then add food, phone, tv, I have a child, insurance, the list goes on. When I got my dogs almost 3 yrs ago these costs were literally 3 times less. So please don't tell me to get rid of my dogs and not use money as an excuse. I am a very good pet owner, my dogs are very well cared for. I know it is uncomfortable for them to go through heat, but I am not breeding them to make money, I don't even take the risk for them to get bred. I am sorry I asked my question I was just curious. |

We are moving to another city as soon as our house sells and we have invested in a company in Calgary. My husband has a job that will set us up there. As for the daycare, it is something that interests me and I want to go back to school for something, not sure what yet, I was throwing around some ideas and looking for some insight from Dog owners. |

Well with all due respect if you are a home owner there are home equity loan lines of credit and I would assume you have a credit card. |

I really don't need to go into detail but its not fair that everyone is thinking the worst of me over this. We had a property inspection done when we bought our house in Dec 07 but the seller managed to cover up a lot. We have wasted a lot of our resources to fix this 2004 home just so we can sell it and leave this town. |

oh, lets see get into more debt in a crashing economy, that is failing because people where living above their means and now are loosing everything they have because they cant pay their what was easy money debt. we have perfect credit, we have one CC from our bank that has been used 2 times in 3 years, we walked into 50,000 worth of equity in our home but have enough sense not to go jump deeper in debt. I would have told you where to stick it if you had said that too me, not every one choses to live the grand American way and quite frankly I would have told you it was none of your biz.
300 is allot of money, but hopefully I can help you find a salution to your problem, in the meantime, this sould be read,

Ive been to Cali a couple of times, it scared me too and Ive been to NYC...
Im in the north Ga area so we do get some refreshing cold but it doesnt last. If there was a place that stayed in the mid 60 to lower 70s year around Id be in paradise as I hate the heat too, so mom gets a turn to tell me how cool it is most of the summer, we still see a 100 a couple of times a year there, however the air isnt as thick up there as it is here. When i got off the plan after living up there for so long it was very hard for me to breath here. |
