First you should find out what the laws are in your area about this. Then talk to your friends and see if you can help them make different housing choices for their dogs. |

Not everyone can keep their kids, much less their pets, as well as I can. IF the dogs are kept in a 10x10 pen and are as you say kept clean, then these people are ok no matter what your personal opinion is. USDA, the agency that regulates animal care for "professional" kennels, has set as a standard the length of the Dog plus 1/2 by the width of the Dog plus 1/2 as the minimum size requirements. Concrete is an acceptable floor material as it can be kept clean and sanitary without alot of effort. dogs should not be kept on grass and allowed to dig in the grass, according to the USDA. Each state has laws and most cities have laws pertaining to housing requirements. you can always turn your neighbor in but they may not be doing anything illegal. As I said, your kids and your pets probably are not as spoiled as mine. But that does not mean you are a bad pet owner. And by the way I have over 65 dogs currently in my rescue kennel. They love to roam on our daily walks over 122 acres of fenced land, play in the ponds and chase the wildlife....but some people would not like it because they are in 10x10 pens during the day and are crated at night so their new owners will have a pet that is on it's way to being a great housepet. |

USDA regs are not the preferred regs that the majority of Dog lovers would agree with. i would have to say that these rules have been set with mass numbers of dogs in mind in more of a temporary situation.
