We are renting a 2 bdrm 2 bath cabin the second week of may outside of Pigeon Forge, Tn and taking the dogs along. It has a plasma screen, hot tub, 2 jetted baths and mountain views. I can't wait to get away and relax!

This will be a long drive. In case the fur kids get car sick anyone have any tips to remedy the situation?

I love going up to Tenn for the weekend.

Bring paper towels, a bottle of cleaner, I always put a crappy towel or rug under the dogs for long trips that way if things do get yuckie then I can toss it in the trash if needed, with little dogs news papers or paper bags work well too, i shred paper and put it on top of the flat. Boost their immune system with some probotics, there is anti motion sickness meds for them but feeding them after you park in the evenings and not during drive time is good common sense. if going non stop then do small portions.

if they will go on wee wee pads take some even if they have been weaned off them as in a new place they might not like to go, truckers do this.

Omg im leaving tonight for the smokies and im so excited. Im also staying at a cabin that sound much like yours but on a mountain in Gatlinburg.
Bring water from home because your Dog can get sick if there not used to the water.Naturald is right i also like giving them antioxidant wafers with probiotic. Im traveling with my Dog but he is used to it so i don't have to worry but im also traveling with my friends Dog and he gets stress and car sick so she is planning to take his water and give him his meal 3 or 4 hours before leaving and just giving him an ice cube half way to our driving and a couple piece of boiled chicken(10 hr drive). So depending how long your trip is try limiting there food and water intake. Have a great time and if you need any info on great restaurant or trails ill be glad to help.

Small world ehhh Palanca?! Have a great trip and please come back and tell me how it went. Where exactly can I purchase these probiotic wafers? We have about a 12 hour drive. It's been around 10 years since I have been out that way. We drove straight thru before, but plan to make it more relaxed and get a room on the way. From what I understand there are only 2 trails in the park that dogs are allowed. I am still researching.

Ahh that's touching Mog but we won't be leaving for another month. I haven't considered your responses to me to be that rude...we are both just passionate with our own views!

I forgot about the water and even froze water right before I wrote that to take to the show with me.

Google Dog probotics and you can come up with many products.

WOW!! It is so hard for me to imagine a 12 hour drive to the Smokies, when I am only 90 minutes away. I just wanted to remind you to make sure that the Cabin you are staying in is pet friendly!! Some of them don't allow pets.
I am sure you checked into that, but you might want to call a couple days before you are scheduled to arrive to remind them that you need a cabin that allows pets. Some rental agency have pet and no- pet cabins.

I may have even underestimated the time. Us Mid-Westerners are used to driving or flying as we've seen everything interesting around us a million times over. Yep the cabin is pet friendly and a fairly new addition..but thanks for your concern.

hi i just got back! It was great. Yeah i heard that theres only two that allows dogs but when i went to cades cove in the park there were dogs everywhere. When you first enter the park(caves cove) there is a great picnic area that allows dogs and you can barbecue just bring food and coals. I asked the ranger because i regret not bringing my Dog into the cades because of what i thought he said its okay to bring your Dog where you are allowed to park like the picnic area and the visitor center. I also saw a lot of dogs on the valleys of cades cove playing fetch and in the fields by the mountain. There is also a pet store that carries hollistic stuff in the wine center. I had the best food at the apple mill/applebarn.

im planning now to come back within the month because im planning on rescuing a Dog that i found outside my cabin in the mountain. I was cooking on the deck and i heard my friend scream come here theres you have to see and i thought it was a wild animal so i ran out and saw a Chihuahua maybe rat terrier mix just walking around by itself so i followed the Dog barefoot up the mountain to see if he just wondered of from a cabin finally i realized that she was just wondering around so i tried call her but she was apprehensive then my friend came back with food and she finally came to us. My friend called security to see if anyone is looking for there Dog while i went around cabins a mile from us asking if they lost a Dog and noone did. The security went up to our cabin and he is a big animal lover and he said the rescue was closed and if we wanted he will keep her with him overnight but we said we will keep her until the rescue opens the next day. This Dog was in a poor condition she was either pregnant or just had babies, her tongue was sticking out because she didn't have teeth and her nails were curling in but she was so sweet. The security was talking to us telling us that maybe she was dumped of by a mill and that he rescued a lot of animals around there or maybe someone from the town lost her and she has been walking around. So the next day the security called this woman that foster and recue animals and she said it wasn't a good idea to bring the Dog to the anti cruelty center because noone was gonna adopt an older Dog around there and the place is so over crowded. I told her that i would take her with me but i have two dogs with me and my friend was uncomfortable having a Dog have not seen a vet be in such close proximity with her puppy(we were leaving that day). she said she was going to bring the Dog to the vet and foster her and see how old she was and if noone claims her im going to adopt her and she can spend her remaining days with me.

Did you get the apple fritters, apple butter and apple julep with your order at Applebarn? I may try it although I've heard some mixed reviews. How was the weather? How was your cabin and was it more secluded or in a development? Yeah I've heard people talking about letting their dogs out at Cades but I don't think it is considered a trail. I think I've been there although I haven't refreshed my memory if it's what I think it is. I've heard it's acceptable to walk your Dog around town, did you find that to be true?

That's an interesting story about the Chi. I hope it all works out for you. Come back and update.

Almost time to pack up and leave this Friday for our trip. I purchased probiotics and will start giving them today. Purchased a pink Dog stroller (the only color they had). It's pretty cool and will keep the pack contained if need be.

Wish us a safe trip or get out the voodoo doll! Happy trails to us

Find a pet sitter don't take them along if they get car sick.

Uhh thanks for the advice but I think not. Have you checked rates on pet sitters these days? Not to mention they only come twice a day unless you want to pay even more. I think my pups would be mortified to be left alone for days on end with only a few half an hour visits.

We're already staying at a pet friendly cabin for a flat $40 pet fee. I think I can deal with any car sickeness, but in the short trips we've thus far taken there has been none. Most of all I enjoy my dogs company and they will be safe in the cabin when we leave them to go out.
