If you worked 4 or more hours a day would you put your dog(s) in a daycare if that were an option? Somewhere to spend time with other dogs and people, have play time, some basic agility/obedience training, indoor and outdoor time. |

I don't see why not if you have checked out the program and like it. We have one in my city that offers one day free to try and has a good reputation. They also seperate for breed size.
Another place I observed when I was looking for possible boarding, had one young adult watching a huge pack of dogs and they were just standing around. |

I ask because we are moving to a bigger city soon and I would like to go back to work but I don't want to leave my daughter (daycare is awful around here) and dogs (in a kennel all day). I would like to open a Dog daycare, I drew up plans and everything a few year ago. But I just got wondering if people would even bring their dogs...and if they would pay enough to keep the business going. |

That's a good idea. I know several are in and around my city...some also have boarding facilities. People do use them here although I don't how well thier businesses are doing financially. |

You need to first see if you live in an area that can afford the services you wish to provide and if you have the population to support it. Doggy daycare has been big in metro areas for awhile now.
You need to come up with a good biz plan. You need a good contract. With the economy where its at right now, I would have to think long and hard before I started this type of biz. When peoples wallets get light they tend to tighten their belts first with services they think they can live without first. Maids, lawn care, pet services ect.
It can be done, if you do it right. Good luck. |

Thanx everyone, I think first thing I will put a short little questionnaire at Dog groomers, the spca, petstore etc and see what kind of feedback I get. The Dog groomer I go to suggested having a house built instead of buying one finished and build in a small kennel and make sure we by a big lot etc, and run it out of our house. Then I can claim part of my mortgage as business too. This way I lower costs drastically. I just know ALOT of people around here have 2 or more dogs and they are either outside all day or in a crate for 8 or more hours a day. I would like to be able to offer a really good alternative. |

You'd better check with the tax laws on the whole morgage thing. The laws have changed a lot for small biz in the last few years. |
