You know, it all comes down to philosophical choices and differences.

I think it is ok to breed Puppies as long as you are responsible for them and don't let them end up in shelters. Then I don't feel like MY Puppies are part of the problem, no matter what others think.

I know where my babies are and I can not save the world. I can not be responsible for EVERY OTHER BREEDER or accidental litter in the world that I had no part in creating.

I HAVE, rescued other dogs (not of my breedings) that people have dropped off over the years. If I see or know of a Dog in need, I try to help it.

I know some people don't feel like anyone should breed pets while there are still dogs in shelters. I obviously don't agree.

At the same time, I don't think that people should be spending $500 on a pair of Jeans when there are children starving all over the world. It doesn't make much sense to me.

I don't understand why people who Don't Haul things or live on a farm need SUV's and large trucks. It is killing our planet.

Is anyone on here guilty of those moral injustices?

I shouldn't be wearing Nike's when I know they are made in sweat shops by poor starving children, but unfortunately they feel best on my sore feet. So I wear them.

I have weighed the cost and benefits and I can live with it.

is a 30 # yorkie normal?? im sure he is normal, however, the breed standard is 6# and under going by akc standards...and since akc standards to most people are the only standards that matter anymore..this is unfortunate...and certainly not what yorkie lovers would like to see...i have seen these periodic Puppies who are flukes...as we know..no one breeds for a 30# yorkie...this does happen and it happens in some of the best yorkie lines in the country...it certainly does not mean that he is not a yorkie, but he does not meet the breed standard...and what a double standard....it is...what happens to all of the Puppies that do not meet the breed standard?? well...maybe just maybe this is some of the problem...he is still a happy, healthy yorkie..but due to the strict standards of a prestigous kennel club..he may just be a throw away because of looks and size...which may not be the best standard for the final result of what happens to these Puppies...it is very sad...and...the world is not a perfect place...im sure the bashing will start now, however, could you bashers please tell us all exactly what you do with your Puppies that do not meet the breed standards and you are claiming to better the breed...?? we would like to know....and please tell us...how many Puppies that you place every year with genetic issues and will never be a "show prospect"...we all know that simply because you have a "show quality" line..that producing from it will decrease the possibilities, however, due to the close inline breeding..you do have genetic issues along with the misfits...what do you do with these Puppies.?

Simple, the Puppies that are not qualified to show are those that are sold as pets with speuter contracts or are already speuterd . Still a better standard than a byb or millers pups plus with a history and genetic testing your not going to get with a less than reputable breeder, hence why its the better financial choice.

Very refreshing. I don't know that I agree that #30 pound yorkies happen in every line, but I'm pretty confident that 9 to 12 pound Yorkies do. Just like finding Shih Tzus that are over the breed standard of 9-16 pounds is and everyday affair. Chihuahuas that weigh 8 to 10 pounds when they are only supposed to weigh 6. Maltesse that are over 7 pounds. For quite awhile now I've scratched my head when people throw out "Well the breed standard is only... so how can you say the Dog could be..." Its like people have forgotten the breed standard is a goal breeders work to when developing their lines. Most dogs produced fall short of that goal in some way. Often in my opinion and observation, in the area of weight, top line and bite.

OF course I feel that all breeders should be striving for the goal and when they produce dogs they know are not going to come close to that goal those dogs need to be sold with a contract to be spayed and neutered. Those breeder also have a moral if not ethical responsiabilty to tell their buyers that this Dog will weigh more than 5 pounds as well. IN MY OPINION.

In a previous thread she said she knew of a 40 lb yorkie which I questioned. I would think they are mixed with something to be that big. The most I have heard of one weighing is 20 lbs. The standard is under 7 lbs.

Quote staceystange: I have to agree with beaglebrat, most of the friends and people I know who have adopted dogs, puppies, kittens, and cats from the shelter say the same thing, I went to get a animal to save from death and...

if your not buying from a reponsible breeder you will have a high chance of having behavioral problems with a puppy but most can be dealt with proper training. Most of the dogs that are in the shelter most likely came from a byb.
if your not adopting a Dog purchase one from a responsible breeder. If you are purchasing a Dog from a byb your just adding to the problem. This is why so many people believe in adopting rather than purchasing because there aren't as many responsible breeders out there and if they are people aren' willing to wait and research before buying a dog.

i'm not sure what problems you had when you adopted your pets. if you did had problems, like i said, with proper training it can be dealt with..every puppy is different. some take a little longer to train and some are fast learner.
no matter where a Dog came from it can turn into a destructive chewer, potty train mess, or a antisocial dog..if you don't train him.

Oh you don't have to be sorry. I guess I should have used her name to be clearer.
