My Dog is about 6 years old now and she has been sleeping with me since she was a puppy. Everytime I stay the night somewhere else she does not sleep and she keeps my parents awake. I am getting ready to go to college in about 3 months and I need to train her to sleep alone. any suggestions?

Will your parents let her sleep with them? When you are gone so is her comfort. She is dependant on you at night and, when you are gone, she is very upset. At six, it will be hard for her to adjust. You ,might try crating her with a sweater with your scent on it and see if that is enough comfort. Can you take her with you to college? That would be another option. You chose to let her sleep with you when she was young. It is almost cruel to chang now that she is an older dog.( a good reason to alway give your puppy his own bed.)

Honestly, your parents and your Dog are going to have a few rough nights after you leave. I don't think in three short months your going to untrain her to want to sleep with you or miss you when your gone. Thats really asking to much. Let her enjoy her last few months with you. Your parents and your Dog will adjust. I think giving your Dog one of your bed blankets when you leave is a good start. My friend made her daughters Dog a simple stuffed doll out of her daughters old PJ's when she went to college. It was very easy to make. Looked like a gingerbread man with out a face. The Dog carried it everywhere and slept with it at night for a long time. They called it "baby Jenny" (their daughters name is Jenny) and trained the Dog to get it when they could see she was stressed or upset. It calmed her.
