I wanted to share a sad story about a special Dog named Highball. While visiting friends in Tampa this weekend, their 1 1/2 year old pointer evidently encountered a deadly frog about 7:30 pm Saturday evening. He was found having convulsions and was rushed to the veterinarian. He was treated all night long in every possible way but sadly lost his battle around 5:00 the next morning. He was buried less than 24 hours later. It was devastating while shocking that this could possibly happen to their most loyal companion. The problem I am having is that their was and is no sign of any frogs or toads on their property. Obviously it was a poisonous frog or toad according to the symptoms and the advise of the vet. Which is it? A frog? or toad? Can either species be poisonous? What's the difference? Are they big? Did the Dog bite it or kill it? Is it still out there...there's no sign of it being dead or alive and there is another pet Dog to be concerned about. I would love know what this thing looks like since I have a Dog of my own. I have been infested with giant frogs at my front door in the past but luckily my Dog has never got a hold of any of them. I can't say what time of year they are there but when they are, it's very annoying and they are in great numbers. FYI.... if your Dog does come in contact and is foaming at the mouth...it is urgent you take a hose and flush his mouth right away for 3-5 minutes and get him to the vet as soon as possible. That was the advise they received, albeit too late. Anyone who may have more information or know of a website to access, I would appreciate your comments. Thanks for your time, Eileen |
