I am debating on getting a puppy. I want a small Dog that can stay in the house. the dogs that I am interested in all seem to say that they are hard to house break. Does anyone know if there is a breed that is easier to house break than others? Is there a breed that sheds less than others?

You should find a thread on "The Perfect Breed" down a few topics.

small dogs are harder to HB because they have tiny bladders, so unless you are home all day a puppy would not be a good choice IMO

there are many low shed dogs but they are all high maintence, in that they require a lot of grooming

poodles, shih tzu's, yorkies, & others

I actually am home most days! I am fortunate enough to be a stay home mom and wife. You said others...could you be a little more specific? We were thinking either a Boston Terrier or a Pug!??!

i don't know too much about pugs but boston terriers are good dogs.a friend of mine has one and he is a very sweet dog.well behaved and trained.took awhile for her to train him (like 4 1/2 mo. ) but it was so worth it.he likes to play alot and is very active, but if your home alot that might be ok.i have a corgi who is also very sweet, well mannered, but also very active, she likes to play alot.she does tend to shed alot if she is not combed at least 3-4 times a wk ,but again if you are home alot that might not be a problem.good luck

Hard to housetrain, is a bit tricky. It depends on what you mean by Hard? Some breeds take longer to train than others. Generally smaller the Dog the longer the training will take. Largely because of two things, little bladders and people forget to watch them, so they find their piddle later. When a Great Dane pee's on the floor you know it. First you hear it then you smell it. When Chihuahua pee's on the floor you'll be lucky if you find it for two days.

The first few months with a puppy are the hardest. When you get a puppy you have to wrap your mind around idea that its going to take, morning, mid morning, noon, early and late afternoon, evening, night and the middle of the night trips to the potty spot to train it. Rain, sleet or snow, everyday all day they've got to go. Day after day until the Dog is both old enough and understands that pottying happens outside. Some dogs take weeks, some months. Restriction is key, don't let them be where you don't want them to potty if your not watching them. Don't play with them after a nap or dinner until they've been outside.

Just like each human child is different every Dog is different. But like a child and diapers, puppy hood and housetraining doesn't last forever.

I personally love Pugs, I believe they are wonderful with kids and an all around great dog. OF course you need to buy one from a breeder who knows what they are doing and breeds for health as well as looks.
