Plenty of socialization I think is tops. Your on the right track with the obedience training. Potty training is never exactly the easiest with Puppies you have to be on guard constantly. As long as you are kind and patient and teach the puppy with kidness even though he will soil and you won't catch it all the time your Dog has a good chance not to be maladjusted. Do you know the background at all of the parents. 200.00 is not alot of money for a purebred. Did you get papers with the pup? Boswer |

your puppy should not go anywhere until she has had ALL her series's of shots which is 16 weeks. no visitors either as there is to great a danger of someone dragging parvo into your home.
there is not a lot you can teach an 8 week old puppy so if you were to start soon, I would never go to that "trainer". they are taking you for a ride as well as endangering your puppy.
at this age you need to take her out about every hour or so & twice during the night.
temperment has much to do with heridity as looks do, so no it is not just in how you raise them. have you met the parents? |

very good idea for training.helps them with some discipline and lets them know that you are the boss.socialization very important but i also agree not until after the shots are complete.very important to have them around other people at young age so they can get used to them, but also important to be around other animals.good luck with your Dog it sounds very nice. |

Yes I do agree that a pup can become sick from other sick dogs but the most crucial age to socialize a puppy is between three - 18 weeks. The pup begins its socialization with its litter mates, mother and people during the first 8 weeks. Its then your job to continue this socialization. I am forwarding the following from an artical my trainer gave me. It's important that all dogs are well socialized especially breeds that can be known to become naturally shy or agressive.
Socializing a puppy means exposing her to the world and teaching her that it is a safe place to be. A young puppy has to meet and greet 100 people outside of your immediate family and 100 other dogs before she turns 18 weeks old, in order to be socially normal as an adult dog. This is a huge project that should not be taken lightly. The more different people, places and dogs you are going to want your adult Dog to be around, the more exposure she needs as a young dog.
This does sound almost impossible but Believe it or not it can be done. I've done it and am continuing to keep up his socialization so he continues to be a loving Dog with everyone and everything he meets. Enroll your pup in a puppy socialization class. Make sure that the class requires the recommended vaccines for the pups enrolled. The risk of your pup becoming sick from another Dog is greatly outweighed by the risk of having an undersocialized dog. Good luck.

congrats on your new pup i have a pit also he's a year and a few months i love him to death unfortanetly i have to find him a new home cause of a moving situation but he's a great dog I wasnt very afriad of pits but everyone..even my own family tells me to be careful around him because of there rep incase he ever snaped. but this Dog couldnt hurt a fly if he wanted to. he's the biggest baby there is and is so loving. I've had him since he was just able to be away from him mom and have raised him ever since. Just make sure with your puppy that you make him friendly around food and bones which is what i did with mine..i would sit next to him when he eats or has a bone and pet him or play with his feet and stuff like that. I could put my face right next to his in the bowl and he wouldnt even think about growling or anything. He is a larger pit tho..around 80 pounds right now and is deff still growing but i think he was a little to spoiled because when he was a puppy and about 30 pounds he use to sit by my feet and look up at me so i would pick him up and carry him around every where which is deff not something i could do now at his size. But he does think he's a lap dog..he likes to sit and be as close as possible to me which is usally this huge pitbull sitting right on my lap. Not mentioning that he's afriad of the dark so i litterly have to pull him outside at night to go to the bath room, so when people tell me to becarful i want to just laugh at them lol. But signing up for classes was a very good idea because of there size and they do get hyper so it might be hard to control them if there not well trianed. But as long as you raise him in a good loving home he'll be just fine
good luck with your new pup
P.S make sure he has lots of bones because they loveee to chew |
