hopefully it is nothing serious.not that it is a small thing but maybe your Dog is eating something that is too big to get down.again hope it is nothing serious but by all means yes take it to a vet.good luck

I would also certainly ask the vet about the Dog weight also. Weight on dogs is the same as humans to much is very bad. Also it is just as difficult to lose and pets can use all kinds of tricks to eat more. The main thing no feeding at the table only Dog food. If he has been feeding at the table it will be difficult and is going to take will power to break.

When you say "choke" do you mean he can't breathe or he is coughing or he starts to vomit but nothing comes out? Does he do it when he is running around or exerting himself or is he just standing there doing nothing when it happens? Sometimes dust or a mild allergy will make them cough and gag. Heartworms can make them wheeze and have trouble breathing. Some intestinal parasites can make them gag and vomit or gag and nothing comes out. Why wait till March?

You don't mention the age of your dog. Sometimes dogs with bad teeth will tend to have heart problems and this will make them wheeze or choke when exerting themselves. If you have bvoarded your Dog recently, he may have picked up "kennel cough". Theses are other factors besides weigh that might make him cough. Best to have him examined by a vet. Good luck!

My daschshund is terrible for that - I would still suggest talking to a vet - but mine chokes, coughs, gags, heaves, and the other two dogs go nuts trying to figure out what she is doing. She does it 4 out of 5 times when she gets a drink, after she eats a lot, runs a lot, or scratches her collar and it pulls on her neck. Between my three dogs I talk to my vet fairly often and I ask her everytime about it. It's just a 'quirk' she has I guess.

Little miss mom: sounds like your Dog might have a torn trachea. That would be another reason for choking. it is not uncommon for dogs to ahve this condition if they have been rough housing with others. Sometimes they may also develope polyps in the wind pipe. A simple proceedure is done to rule these causes out that involves scoping the trachea. Good luck!

My guess is that he is choking in his on body fat. Put him on a diet and if that doesn't work take him to a vet.
