they do this because they are not getting enough nutrients in their diet so they are reeating what the "pooped" out.I hoped I helped.

Athough there are people who believe as you do, I've never met a vet who agreed with you.

I agree it is common, I have seen many dogs try to eat it at the Dog park and their owners are very viglant trying to prevent it. Common may not be the right word but it is not rare.

I have had a problem with this with all the snowfall this winter. My Pom decided he liked the frozen "poopsicles" he found buried in the snow and decided to make a little game of it.
I got the Deter at Petsmart hoping it would break him of the habit but still caught him going at it at first. I stopped giving the Deter to both my dogs after it gave them a nasty gassy smell every day.
I am just super diligent now in picking it up and if I have to put an E collar on the Pom I will. He seems to know it is a BIG no no now after getting his mouth washed afterwards a few times. I don't belive it's because he isn't getting a good diet as I feed holistic.

Because he's a DOG, and dogs do not care if they're eating their own waste. Just, correct him, and let him know this is NOT an acceptable behavior. He'll eventually get the idea.

I feed holistic as well and clean his potty spot everyday bc i dont like smelling waste in the house. I have provided him with toys he has bones squeaky toys and a toy rope, I dont know how much more he needs at a time. He is still doing this snd he knows its wrong because as soon as I see him with it he drops it and goes away from it lol

Research coprophagy online, there haven't been many studies on it, but it has gotten some attention.

I,ve heard that if you put a little pineapple in their food it may deter them from eating their feces. There are other products you can purchase at most pet stores that may help.
Good luck
